Basic Input/Output System

...... basically sort's out the hardware for use by the operating system (Windows).

If you flash the bios incorrectly you may not be able to boot your computer after. If you insist on flashing - take the time and save a backup of the old one first -- most flashing utilities allow this. Also make detailed notes on the old settings within the bios. When you flash to the new one these are gone and you may need them to run your computer properly.
