Effective Range of rockets and 37mm
« on: July 30, 2001, 04:49:00 PM »
When attacking a GV, what is the effective range of the air to ground rockets?  d1.0?  d1.5?  Especially to have with any accuracy.

Also, what is the effective range of the 37mm cannon on the Yak 9T.  I've used this gun effectively against buffs but want to know how far out I should shoot against targets (this also applies for GVs).  If you have to get within d300-400 to use the 37mm it's almost useless against a GV because you have to have room to pull up out of your dive so you don't auger in (unless of course you're in a very shallow angle of attack)

As far as I know, the "effective" range (well, the range you can HIT with the cannon) is about 200 yards.  I know that is about the range of the 30mm cannons that the LW planes have.  The rockets I've never been any good with, but I usually wait until I'm d500 or so before firing, and I always fire 2.  I've heard they are accurate out to 1k if you make the approach in a 45degree dive.

rockets.: i have rockets most time when im in tiffie. Well.. i got 1 guy in 109 , while he takeing off. I released rckts from 7k over ground and he got it   :) Usualy killing GV from 90 deg. angel . and fireing when im 2k-1k above them. I've had my best luck in yak9t coming in very low, fire a good burst about 800 yards, then peel off.

As to rockets, you can launch them from 8k up but the trick is hitting anything at that range.
