Mitsu! Captain Hatano's Ki-84-Ia, "45"

The basics are finished, with some minor adjustements, riveting, and weathering job left.

Tell me if you see anything wrong, or if the colors aren't right, or etc etc. It's hard to fix stuff once I enter weathering phase, so it's good if you can give feedback now.

Not according to Mitsu's profiles.

Frankly I can't really make out the 'feeling' of the basic paint. It seems to be technically a type of "green", blended with a mix of brown to give out a "khaki" feel.. except it seems much more green/lighter than the"khaki" one would imagine.

Try putting a layer of grey down. then a layer of a light green. and a layer of yello. then a layer of the brown. and make the brown, yellow, and green somewhat transparent to it makes the faded color. heres what i came up with real quick

hope this helps

Very nice Kweassa!    A real beauty.

I've never seen pictures of the brown scheme on Japanese a/c.   I noticed your 18 Sentai Ki61 is also brown.    Where'd you find pics of them?

The above Ki-84-Ia is according to the profile pics and paint color data provided by Mitsu in this thread.

The reddish-brown Ki-61-I-tei is from the profile pics of the plane flown by 1st Lt. Naoto Fukunaga of the 18th Sentai, located in Java, 1944.

This profile pic can be seen in this website. Probably one of the best sources for making basic skinning templates for Ki-61s.

Admittably, the most familiar paint schemes for Japanese planes are the traditional blackish/dark-green ones, but it seems quite a lot of Japanese planes retained colorful schemes which is pretty unfamiliar to us at best.

The very brown Ki-61 skin is based from very very old reference.
S. Nohara drew that ki61 paint with old info a long time ago.

Kweassa, wow I'm surprised at your quick job...The meatballs on the wing is a bit big though, the color is pretty fine.

Do you consider this official color chart for Ki-84?

Color Chart of Japanese Aircraft #1(industry standard)
Ki-84 (IJA) painted "Green 1-1" on the upper surface.

Color Chart of Japanese Aircraft #2(industry standard)
Ki-84 (IJA) painted "Gray 2-6" on the bottom surface.

Mitsu, I was a bit confused on which colors to use. The profile pics of Hatano's Ki-84 uses different colors from your industry standard color charts.

I'll change the colors to the industry standard for a side-by-side comparison. You can choose which one you like better from there. I'll reduce the meatball size too.

This whole process takes only about 5 minutes, so no biggy.

Also, if you have a picture of captain Hatano, I could make a pilot skin too.

I've updated the pics on the first post.

The upper pics are colors based on the profile drawing. The under pics are colors based on the color charts.

Come to think of it, the darker colors according to the color charts looks a lot more familiar now.

 Which one would you like?

ps) hehehe I have a day off! neener neener! :p

So, should I use the industry standard colors? Or go with the profile pic colors?

The FRANK with the "Home Defense Bands" was always my favorite scheme. The 84 in WARBIRDS had them if I remember right.

Question: Is the first two pics of the first post the same color as the third & forth? Seems the Darker Green looks more correct. At least from what I have seen. Is this lighting or are you trying to simulate faded paint?

Nice job BTY! ! :aok

If see a pic, I can do it.

Having some good results with a new template method, which reduced my skin making time by about 30%.
