i'd say besides pompei, probably the worst natural disaster in recorded history.

i can not think of a thing similar in any of my learnings of 32 years on this planet.

my heart goes out to anyone who lost a friend or family member in this tragedy, and my soul prays for the millions affected by this.

what is *kind of spooky to me, think of the "doomsday" scenarios of a comet / asteroid landing in the ocean. this was a tiny tsunami caused by a little rumble in the earth. just imagine a massive catastrophy like that.
I don't know what to put here yet.

Bangledesh isn't really positioned to have been hit directly by this wave.  I haven't heard anything though, there may be some loss from an indirect hit.

I think Krakatoa was the worst. Not only the earthquake and tsunamis, but the fall out destroyed many crops through out the world causing mass starvations.

My guess is over a million dead, once they get into some of the remote areas.  A terrible tragedy.

the videos here:

http://jlgolson.blogspot.com/2004/12/tsunami-video.html

are chilling

1 vidoe in some other language, they are laughingat the kid being swept up, and going "wow" until it really hits bad.

another the women on the roof of the hotel, guess the safest place to be, building doesnt look to fall, but those poor souls on the ground.

last vid i watched showed on some porch trillions of gallons washing by, entire buildings being swept away in 1 fell swoop.

read a story about a wife of a pastor on the train that got swept away. she died. what power to take a train and toss it like a matchbox car.

horrific.

Story on local news...

Woman floating in surge with one of her children in each arm (2). Both are young ages maybe 5 and 2 years old. She has to let one them go to let the other survive. She lets the older one go, he cant swim. Hours later the woman finds her older son alive and unhurt, she asked him how he swam, he said he did like the mice and doggy padeled to a building. They are all fine now.

The older sons name was Lucky .
