Cray Jr. Supercomputer is up and running 88fps
« on: April 03, 2000, 11:37:00 PM »
Just built and tweaked a new machine
Epox EP-7KXA AGP X 4  Via 133 chip set both sides
192 Megs Apacer 133 Ram
Athlon 700Mhz can be o/c to 805 right from MOB
ASUS V6600 GE-Force 256 SGRAM O/C to 142/195
Dual fan on processor
one fan on AGP card
dual case fans
20.5  Gig IBM GPX Deskstar H/D ATA66 UDMA
Took mucho tweaking and even got 94fps out of lowest AH setting and 80 in tower with map

It's Smokin but as usual so is my plane, so I cant use the computer excuse anymore.

BTW anyone else building an Athlon let me know gotta ton of tips to help ya.....

Nice Cleaner.
I just finished another pc at my place it's very close to what you have.

Asus Apollo chipset
Pent III 733/133FSB not overclocked
256megs PC133 SDRAM
GeForce 256 DDR not overclocked
21inch Sony Trinitron Monitor
2x 18Gig Cheetah's LVD

I haven't tried over clocking on this build yet.

I play at 1280x1024 and I get about 73FPS in the cockpit forward view.

I love the speed but I can't exactly say it's helped my flying...

Your system performance seems awesome. I have just two questions:

1 - wich resolution do you use?
2 - Any stability problems with your new EPOX?

Heh...

 - Asus P3V4X (Apollo Pro 133A)
 - PIII/600EB 133FSB
 - 256Mb PC133 SDRAM
 - 20Gb (got a server with big hard drives)
 - Geforce 256 SDR
 - Philips 21"
 - nuthing overclocked

55 fps out the front of the P38 at 1280x1024 32bit, f/rates vary depending on what ur looking out the front of and how much cockpit u see. Geforce doesn't do a lot for framerates - result is pretty much the same with a TNT2... until HTC puts some T&L stuff and more polygons in :-)

Hehe

On my poor ol' P3-450 with Viper 770 (TNT2 Ultra) and nothing overclocked I get 35-60 FPS at 1024x768x32... I tried it at both 112 and 133 FSB - everything seems quite stable (prolly need a better fan to run it continuously). Viper's own performance can be cranked up too.

But then again - what's the point? I don't see any visible difference with higher resolution. Icons are just as big and ugly...

*sniff*

PII 266; (yah A TWO-SIXTY-SIX!) 128 meg CHEAPO ram; a dusty supermicro mobo; Viper 7700 cheapo Vid card w/ 32meg and an old 17' monitor. No cooling fans. No two-stage doppler phased array bus drivers with dual overhead crossing guards. The lights do not go dim in the neighborhood when I boot up.

32fps.

The computer don't get the kill credits.

Heh heh,

People tend to ferget that the human eye won't generally discern the difference, between 40 FPS and 140 fps......

Happy with my little PII 450, 128k ram,
Diamond Viper 550, and dual Voodoo2's....
Teensy weensy 15" Impressions monitor, running 1024x768

Averages 40-50 fps....

Smoke - just make sure you get a decent monitor. You will replace all other bits within a year anyway .

Smoker that almost exactly the system I have right now. Except my Athlon is a 700 (running 770), and my 3D Prophet is a SDR instead of the DDR.

Very sweet, you won't be disapointed.

Overclocking Athlons - when you overclock from 700 to say 800 you get a 14% improvement, you are also reducing the lifespan of your computer by half. I have heard 2-3 years is a good "athlon/Piii" lifespan, which implies in 1.5-2 years you could start to see some serious probs. Technology has slowed down somewhat and I don't think you are going to "want" to upgrade by then.
