Bail out question
« on: October 27, 2001, 05:44:00 PM »
Not that I ever have the chance to survive an encounter and bail out, but how does one do it.  I've practised in offline and have my bailout key and chute key mapped, but nothing happens when I hit my bail out key.
Is there a certain set of circumstances required (i.e. damaged plane?).

Thanks!

The default bailout key is "enter enter enter", ie hit it 3 times rapidly.

Then use "o" to open the chute.

Hint: wait till your fairly close to the ground before you open your chute, it makes the wait shorter and the enemy don't have much time to target you and chutekill you.

Thanks!  I didn't know you had to hit it 3 times.

Yeah, helps to reduce (though not totally eliminate with dweebs like me around! <g> )the risk of accidentally bailing out, if for instance you type something without bringing up the text box first... if you haven't already done something drastic, like cut engines, you would bail as soon as you hit enter to send the message.

Hehe, last night both these things happened to me anyway - I did say reduce, and not eliminate!   :)  First my Enter key came loose from the keyboard, and I was messing about trying to put it back - and bailed!  Then later I accidentally cut my engines when inadvertently typing without bringing the box up first!    Not advisable in a Lanc...   :)

buff hunting in my p47, i took her up to 35k and started my hunt.

I brought up the chat window and got occupied with something else, normaly i thought you just hit enter to get the cursor in the chat window, being not the brightest moneky in the tree i hit enter a few more times in a frusterated manner..

well ive wasted 30 minutes of my life on worse things i think  :D

(PS: even worse as i fell to the earth i spoted a b17 low..) lol

LOL, yeah I certainly did!  I spent vital seconds wondering what was going on - by the time I realised the ground was approaching fast - too late to open chute!   :o

Hehe, that must have been extremely frustrating for you!  I think my worst 'accidental bail' was in Air Warrior during a scenario.  I was gunning a B17 and the skies were pretty busy with enemy fighters.  I used to use a PCDash game pad which had the various gun positions programmed in as well as other often used commads.  Trying to jump quickly to the Ball turret, I hit what I thought was Ball on my PCDash - and found myself hurtling to the ground!  I had hit the Bail key, which was right next to the Ball one, and at a glance looked the same.  Fortunately we were high enough for me to open the chute in good time before hitting the ground - but I was so embarrassed!   :o
