shooting old guns and why the UPS guy hates me..
« on: January 17, 2005, 05:42:36 PM »
Talking about WWII guns made me get out the old 1917 and chrono some .45 loads I had made for it.   also took along the PPK and a few 44 mags for testing some other lead bullet loads... all the lead bullet loads were a big success IMO but that brings me to why the UPS guy hates me..

Got home and there were two boxes on the porch from my bullet caster..  1500 each of 250 grain keith type lead semi wadcutters..

If it aint bullets it's car parts.

Speaking of UPS and guns...

My dad wanted to ship a 12-gauge shotgun to me via UPS but was told that it can't be done unless he is a licensed dealer...

Is this true?

That would be true.

The only way someone can ship you a firearm is if you sent it to have it fixed, and they return it to you via a secure form of transit.

The UPS guys can ship, just has to ship it to someone who has an FFL, a gun dealer usually.

Very illegal still. It wouldnt be a problem unless something happened like "it got lost!" and we all know that never happens. You could ship all the parts except the receiver but that does you no good. The receiver is the controlled part the ATF cares about.

Have your dad find an FFL(Federal Firearms Liscense) dealer near him willing to ship it for you. They will do it but usually charge to use their FFL. Anywhere that sells guns has an FFL. I have used the local Pawn shop. Then you have to find an FFL in your area willing to receive it. You must then pick it up from them. There will most likely also be a charge on the receiving end. If they try to charge more than $20 on either end find someone else. Its a hassle but thats the way the ATF has the ball bouncing.

I do this all the time, its going to be shiped to you correct. Call a ffl in your town, their are more than you think in your area have them fax their ffl lic to your father then pack it put the copy of lic in the box and ship it US postal. Ups make you jump threw hoops and us postal cost less.
