Problems connecting Wed PM
« on: January 20, 2005, 01:27:39 AM »
Erm,

Thinking of picking up drinking again...couldn't get on Wednesday night 11:00 pm Pacific Time to get my AH fix.  Saw less than "normal" numbers in MA.  Thought might be more people than me w/ problem.

Anyone else?

Edit:  Read the sticky by Skuzzy again.  No virus software running, firewall disabled. (Although I'm 90% computer illiterate and just leave these running most of the time when I play.)

Oh, if this helps too:

Are you getting past the login screen?
Do you lose the connection immediately when you click on an arena?
Do you get to the tower before it disconnects?
Are you getting the switch to TCP message then losing connection?

Also, what game video settings are you running? And what type of video card is it?

I'm getting past the login screen.

I'd say I'm losing the connection just after I click on an arena.  What happens is that the map pulls up...I can see a few players in the tower with me, but within 3 seconds I get lost TCP, UDP (or vice versa) and the "Host Connection Lost" window pops up.

Only started on Wednesday night.  No settings changed.  As I said, I usually just leave virus scan and firewall on, but it still doesn't work if I disable them.  Not running Auto Updater or anything in the background.

Vid Card = Nvidia 5500, 256 Mb.

Settings = 1024 x 768, Max Resolution = 1024, Hardware Vertex Processing Enabled, Max Frame Rate = Unlimited.

(Extra question here:  Will dropping Max Resolution increase frame rates?)

Thanks a bunch

righty

Well, now I actually did something that worked...

Unchecked "Preload textures into Memory"

Everything seems okay now, but still would like to know why it didn't make a difference before...

Thanks

Click on Aces High Icon--->Video Setup--->Video Card Window pops up--->Check "Preload Textures" (either system memory or video memory).

Hope that helps

That is enough, unless you have a lot of background programs running.

The preload options change the timing a bit on startup as it takes some time to get all the files loaded into memory.

Erm, Just guessing here, but I think if you preload into video mem, it's better than system mem.  I'll defer to Skuzzy on this one.
