For those of us who have little choice but to use Direcway to play Ah2 are there any helpful hints, drivers, or anything we can do at all to improve gameplay? I have to try 10 to 15 times to even be able to log in, always get the "host not receiving updates" messages but I eventually get in. Just wondered if there is anything that can be done for those of us who are rural and dont have much choice. Thx

Try unchecking the "Preload textures to memory" option in the video settings of the game. Let me know the results.

Skuzzy,

"Preload all in memory" under Textures was already unchecked. Horizons, Transitions, and Terrain Mipmapping are all checked, frame rate is set to unlimited but I usually get 7 to 22 frame rates with lag expeceted on a sat connection ( gets worse in high traffic areas of the game of course ), Gamma is set at 1.0, Res is 1024x768 and max Texture size is 256

Skuzzy,

I checked the option while in flight which froze my machine and rebooted, once I got in to the server there was no discernable difference in gameplay. I reduced the Max texture from 256 to 128 and did not notice any negative or positive changes. The game is playable and Ill keep playing, was just hoping someone had some magic tricks to make my satellite dsl connection worth what we pay for it ;-)

Best thing you can do is try to maximize your signal strength. Are you using the full broadband version, or do you have the phone line upload version?

Either way Direcway isnt recommended for gaming because you are GOING to have packet loss. Even on perfectly clear days you will sometimes get signal interruptions. It also depends on what part of rural MO you are living in.

Satellite connections will never be any good for real time anything over the Internet.

The packet latency is just too excessive. Up to 3 seconds is not unusual. It is a physical distance issue.
