winxp 64 support?
« on: February 20, 2005, 02:32:20 PM »
Heya

Anyone know if AH2 is winxp 64 ready?  Simple things like 64 bit installer, etc.?

Anyone try it out?  If so, does it work?  If so, how well does it work?
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.

AH2 does work under XP64.

Tried it with an ATI card and took a framerate hit, ATI drivers for XP64 are beta. Although the game definately appeared to run smoother.

Got nVidia 6800GT now, not tried it under XP64 yet.

Get enough of us with AMD or Intel 64 bit CPUs maybe we can bribe HTC to produce a 64 bit AH2.

Ran just fine for me.  Frame rates were 2/3 of WinXP most likely due to 32bit emulation and beta drivers.  Biggest problem is the peripherals - no drivers.  Flight rig was fubar as a result.  If MS fixes the drivers issues and the industry as a whole is quick to release drivers then we might have something.

Searching around you can come up with a lot of 64 bit dirvers.
As far as I know all the motherboards come with 64 bit drivers for XP64 as far as the onboard devices go anyway.

Both ATI (beta) and nVidia have XP64 drivers.

Creative have 64 bit drivers, you just have to go searching to find them.

Only thing I didn't find drivers for was my Mylex 170 SCSI RAID card, but someone is in the process of doing them :).

Use a dual boot, get the best of both.

Now that Intel have joined the bandwagon I expect things to progress a lot faster now, after all wasn't that the real reason XP64 final release was 'delayed'.

the delayed release is certainly suspicious.   Once again the
WinTel monopoly rules despite itself.

On my rig, my cd burner won't work right (using InCD or Nero), nor will my Nostromo.  My stick worked ok, but the centering forces were gone.  Kinda like flying with a spaghetti noodle.  Not fun.

It will take the efforts of many many companies to make 64bit a reality, not just Intel/MS.
