Sorry, but I think REM was a pretty cruddy band, terrible songs, average  musicians and in no way innovative. What did they innovate?

The only REM song I ever liked was "Man On The Moon"

But nothing they did was innovative in the slightest way.

Innovation is a highly subjective thing, however, differences of opinion aside at least I didn't cop out and nominate some of the most ubiquitous music out there.   Judging by your acceptance of Man on the Moon and a plethora of Beatles, then I can see where your musical tastes lie, and it seems rather safe.

In any case, I tend not to take any music that has been created after the so-called 'Tonal Era' too seriously.  It lacks the depth of structure, instrumentation, complexity and theory that makes classical music a rich topic for discourse and enjoyment.

I, on the other hand show an amazing breadth of musical knowledge and depth of class and good taste when I proudly proclaim,  "Hank! 20th century music starts and ends with Hank!"
(and Gershwin, Joplin, and Muddy Waters)

Yeah, and "Losing My Religion" was a real daring, ground breaking  song. :lol

REM was a watermelon band. Name one thing they did that you feel was innovative.

They sucked. Nobody who is sane would put REM in the same league as the Beatles.

And "Man on the Moon" was good because it was different from all REM's other crap.

Hard to tell at this point. Twenty years ago, Hank Jr. was entertaining. Now, I'm just tired of seeing him on Monday Night Football.

Such a groundbreaking affront, at that!  Quite astonishing.  I really do apologize if I offended your "Beatles" selection by putting up some of the music I enjoy.  I can see it's a sensitive subject for you, so I shall pontificate no further.

Did you see Danzig get the crap beaten out of him? That kicked ass!

I'd like to see Glenn Danzig and Henry Rollins in a cage fight. Now THAT would be a spectical!
