The greatest Rock 'n Roll album of all-time, not to mention the very first "debut as greatest hits" album.

This album changed the face of Rock forever. Forget about the Ramones and The Clash. The Ramones were Pop wannabes who couldn't find an ounce of the success they so desperately wanted, and The Clash were just four dorks milking the backlash the Pistols created with this album for every last ounce of its worth. THIS is the real deal; the genuine article. Fast, abrasive, rude, loud, raucous, politically and socially inclined, nothing was even remotely like this album, and to this day nobody can copy this sound, no matter how hard they try. Once you listen to this, you'll think twice about Green Day, Blink 182, Good Charlotte, and the myriad Poseur-Punk bands of the past two decades.

Track Listing
----------------

#1: Holidays In The Sun
#2: Bodies
#3: No Feelings

If you say so.

I'd still have to go with an Album that has a prism on the cover of it.  An album that someone is throwing on the turntable that has been scratched to high heaven.  Someone living in a hut in the middle of nowhere would have Dark Side Of The Moon playing.

Sex Pistols are good, but not the greatest.

It depends on your definition of Rock 'n Roll. If you think that glamorous guitars and long, beautiful hair make for a Rock band, well then... So be it.

The Pistols *were* and still *are* Rock 'n Roll. It was never about complexity (though each musician was exceptional with their respective instruments, Glen Matlock most of all). It was about raw power, the lyrics, and the message. A genuine "we don't care about what you think of us" attitude.

The Imitators and Posers who tried to follow in the wake of the Pistols didn't even grasp the concept of their music. They tried to make it either much more complex, or even simpler than it was, and they usually ****ed it up (the Dead Kennedys did a great job of keeping the flame with Fresh Fruit For Rotting Vegetables, but then they screwed it all up after that, with their "Hardcore" BS).

If it is pure Rock 'n Roll you want, the Pistols canot be topped. If it's an image and sound of pomp and glamour, then listen to the mainstream that's already been listed.

And Zulu7: potatish@earthlink.net if you're that interested in the album ;) .

Another Pink Floyd follower? I see that you're not one for more intelligent music.

Don't get me wrong, it is a complex work of musical splendor. But Pink Floyd were full of themselves. They were suppsoed to be rebellious, but they didn't do anything to rebel! And talk about selfishness: They didn't (and still haven't) paid those kids who sang the chorus on "Another Brick In The Wall". There's more to music than the "music".

It's not Rock 'n Roll. It's Psychedelic Guitar-Based Pop.

Maybe so, but all of those songs are on my playlist :) I won't try to defend rap.. you can't. 99% of it is total crap done by sample potatos. I still like that 1% though.

Rock:  Ya see that Ensign, lighting the cigarette?
Powell: Yes Rock.
Rock: Well that's where I got it, he's my son.
Powell: Really Rock, well I'd like to meet him.

Don't forget about "Any Way You Want It". That song is great, and it always reminds me of Rodney Dangerfield dancing on the Golf Course.

The Pistols are Punk.   Btw, the kids were paid at the time of the recording.    My favorite Queen tune is Sheer Heart Attack off of News Of the World.   Sid Vicious getting ripped on, it's beautiful.
