Me 262 Flies Again (photos)
« on: February 28, 2005, 02:21:34 PM »
At the annual National Warbirds Operators Conference (NWOC) in Seattle on Friday Feb 25th, we were treated to a test flight and several passes of the Me 262 "White 1."  This is the first of the new build 262's under construction by the Me262 Project.  This is also the same aircraft that suffered a gear malfuntion and crash landed, required extensive repairs.  Also in the background of the flightline shot is the second flyer which is currently undergoing taxi tests.  Shots taken at Paine Field.

Enjoy.  MiG

It's totally overmodelled.

The funny thing is, you're right! :)

From I remember, it uses higher thrust GE jet engines that are lighter, smaller, and more fuel efficient. Then again, I'm not sure using Jumo engines would make them alot of money. :)

Yep.  The GE's it use are also so much smaller then the original Jumo's that there's enough room to have a faux engine visible when you open the maintenance panels.  Eg, you open the door and it looks like an original Jumo inside.

Airboss, I work down at the Museum of Flight. Come down sometime if you haven't seen the new fighter wing.

2stony,

I usually get down to the MoF at least once a month for the Cascade Warbirds meetings.  I was there last saturday night with the NWOC group.  It was great having free run of the museum, complete with cash bar and hors-douevres while talking to pilots that flew many of the actual aircraft that are now sitting on display.   We also did a "field trip" up to the restoration center - I must say that the FM-2 Wildcat is coming along nicely in its restoration.

What days/hours do you work at the MoF?

M-F, 8-5. Sometimes on the weekends. We're having a lot of fighter aces for Memorial Day weekend if you'd like to meet some of the "real" ones. I belong to the NW Friends of the Fighter Aces and we have Aces' symposiums 3-4 times per year. There is a signing session after each event where the aces sign pretty much anything you want.
