How do you know that? One man on TV told you? Or you saw that in 'Red Heat"?

Why is it that life is not as easy over there anyway? That's one reason why I would hate to live there.

Russia is a huge country with more natural resources than the US, yet life it hard over there. Why do you think that is?

I'm not "spoiled" and not fat. I weigh 158 pounds.

And why would you personally insult me just because I stated that I would hate to live in Russia or any of it's backward satelites?

Russia is a mess that I'm glad I don't have to live in.

NUKE, I didn't insult you personally. I have asked simple question - how do you know that Russia is a mess? Where did you get this secret information?

If you have  never lived in Russia how you could hate that? Just because somebody told you something about this country?

Boroda is right - you, guys, are so brain washed! The source of your strong feelings like hate and love is not your experience but mass media and Hollywood...

If you have never lived in America why do you think that mass meida and Hollywood rule like an iron fist?  Just because somebody told you something about that country?

You Russians are so brain washed!  The source of your strong feelings about Americans in not your experience but your governments propaganda.

Stop being stereotypical Russians when you are stereotyping Americans.

Because I was born and grew in Russia, and have been living in Canada since 1999.
So, I have ground to compare.

Vad, why did you move from Russia to Canada?

By the way, do you have hot water whenever you want it in Canada?

Boroda was once explaining how he took a bath about once a month or something, because in Russia they don't have the technology to supply heated water in the winter because it's impossible to keep the pipes working.

Another reason why I'd hate to live in Russia. I like to take a shower at least once a day.

Hm. I can't say that I lived in America, but I spent there one month as an exchange student in 89. I remember people being surprised: "Look, they are just like us!" Then look at me and say: "I mean you wear jeans and sweater..." :D

Mass media manipulates modern society all the time. Watching this board (in fact some other places with the same public since 1998) I was able to see it in progress, and people here are intelligent, educated and thinking, I can say - higher then average.

Life in Russia (at least in big cities) isn't much different from US or Europe or any other country. I enjoy it, it gives you some opportunities that are impossible in other places. And I enjoy my freedom ;)

Nuke, you make me think that I have problems with English.

In a country that has winter 8 months long - they have to check pipes, and it takes 3 weeks officially, usually less.

I take shower daily, and I take a bath at least once in 3 days.

You so delicate that you can't take a cold shower? ;) Or simply heat water on gas? :D Americans are strange people. Can't live without warm water-closet :D They have toilet paper (!) and chewing gum (!!!) in Army field rations!!! :rofl

NUKE, you don't want to answer on my qeustion. Actually, it is indirect answer also. All information you have about Russia you got from media.

Ok, regarding your questions. I am programmer, and I move to Canada because here I have more opportunities and better salary.  It doesn't mean that I hate Russia or don't want to come back in future. A lot of Canadiens are working in USA, many Americans are living and working in Europe, etc.

Hot water... yea, it is a problem in Russia. Not because of technology, more because of centralization. They don't use home heaters, hot water comes from nearest hydro station.

I don't know where are you living but you have to remember huge blackout 2 years ago when Ontario and the East of USA were without electricity for 2-5 days. At that moment I wanted to take a bath but couldn't.   BTW, such blackout is literally impossible in Russia.  I remeber the strike of municipal workers 3 yers ago in Toronto. It was a mess I have never seen  in Russia! Garbage was everywhere. What else? Liberal election promises? Half a year wating period for urgent surgery? 60% taxes? 600 CAD welfare which is less than rent in the worst district of Toronto? 6000 CAD auto insurance premium per year in Ontario? I have mentioned only problems which are literally unknown in Russia.

But I don't hate Canada, it is wonderful country, I like it. As any other country in the world it has advantages and disadvantages. Believe me, there are a lot of things in Russia what you would like. And a lot of things what you would hate. But to hate something just because somebody told you, without own experience... it is not clever, at least.

They had Russian border guards, but IIRC they were removed because Kirgiz border is relatively safe and they don't need assistance from Commonwealth to stop drug traffic like Tajikistan.

A Russian base at Kant was open no more then 2 years ago. As Commonwealth joint forces outpost. They provide air power to secure Kirgiz borders. They had an invasion of terrorist gangs in the 90s, and they need air support, so - we provide it. Unlike US base that AFAIK is no more then a cargo port supporting US units in Afghanistan.

Russia has military bases only in Georgia (they are in process of removal now), Armenia, Kirgizia and a 203rd division in Tajikistan (that one repelled Taliban from Tajik borders and provides technical assistance to Northern Alliance). Sorry, forgot Pridnestrovie, a Russian anclave in Moldavia, they are being removed now too.
