I've almost allways been opposed to his view but I respect  and admire the man.

All the bells of my town are ringing outside.

I've just heard the news.   As a catholic, its very sad news indeed.  I had the priviledge of seeing the pope when he came to Ireland in 1979 also I had the greater priviledge of attending an audience in the vatican in 2001 when my sister got married.  My sister had a private audience for a short few minutes and those couple of minutes touched her very deeply.  She recounts that during the meeting he looked deeply into her deepest soul and that is something she will always remember

Whether you agree with his teachings or not, the depth and sincerity of his convictions are unarguable. He stood for a way of life that in a world full of greed and selfish consumerism didnt sit well with some people.   Even so, he had the courage to stand behind his teachings and not give in to the temptation to do what was 'popular'.

For polish people this must be a very sad day.  My condolances to you guys but remember you are priviledged to have given the word 'Papa Karol Wojtyla'.

C'était pas franchement de bon gôut.

Voire même plutôt malvenu vu  les circonstances.

I wrote to Moot :
it was bad taste
Especially given the circumstances.

What is extraordinary in this pope is his influence,I have a jewish friend and a muslim friend who said they will pray for him.
I'm not sure this 2 friends will pray for me,that something only this pope have  been able to obtain.

You thought it was adressed to you ?
If so sorry it was not my will,I apologise.

He was a good man who stood for his principles and guided his church with the tools that God gave him to use.

Rest in peace.
DEFINITION OF A VETERAN
A Veteran - whether active duty, retired, national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in their life, wrote a check made payable to "The United States of America", for an amount of "up to and including my life."

This is the same as every other death thread.

The person is dead and there's nothing I can do about it.

Saying I'm sorry or that I thought the person had this or that qualities is hypocrisy imo (not that I consider it hypocritical from others).

If I could say something helpful I would, but I don't know any such thing for this occurence; that is, I don't know anything to type that'd actually resolve what's happened.
I don't believe in (my)prayer, sorry.

And since I didn't know the person myself anymore than, let's say, the avg poster here, I can't pretend to bring anything new to the discussion, so besides this tit err, I never reply to these threads.

The tit question wasn't meant to poke fun at him or his passing away; it was obvious that it wasn't a tit, nor that a tit would make its way into a respectuous post-mortmem post about the pope.
Under the feeble and fake "bait" there was an honest question, but I guess that it's too much for a touchy nerve...

I did appreciate that he spoke to so many populations in their own languages, for what it's worth.

And considering the circumstances, I'd say it was neglectful to use an ambiguous text symbol without explanation for the incult.
