Never used one of the big bank branches.
Never trusted them, but I doubt they are any worse than the little podunk ones in our little towns.
Case in point:
About three months ago, I get my bank statement in the mail, I open it and to my surprise, where I am expecting to see a balance of $500 and change in my checking account, there is $6300......hhhhhhhmmmmmmmm.
Call the bank, like a honest dumbarse, and ask them what is going on......seems they deposited someone else's money into my account. Okay, being honest, I help them figure out who the money rightly belongs to and authorize the withdrawal of the funds from my account.
End of the month comes up and there is a $250 "transaction fee" for THEIR mistake, which put me in the red (I was out work at the time and operating on a shoestring budget, but I kept my account in the black at all times), and I get a phone call telling me I need to bring the account up at least a zero balance from a negative one with two days or they are going to close the account. They charged me for their screw up, then wondered why I was a not so nice person when I walked across the street for a face to face chat with the bank president.
Did I get it resolved? Nope.
The bank pres told me I could have kept the money, as it was the bank's error, not mine, however, my business would no longer have been welcome there. The SOB pretty much laughed at me the whole time, implying that I was screwed no matter what I did, cause they had a "right" to charge me that transaction fee and I had recourse other than to get the account current or lose it.
Right now, I use my checking account for times when I need to mail a payment off or send money to school with my son.
Other times, it is cash and carry. I am tired of banks coming up with fees to suit themselves.
Anyone else ever got charged a fee for an "excessive deposit"?
I got one of those from a local credit union I banked with for a short time.........deposited a paycheck and since it was for over $2000, they charged me as it was "excessive for the type checking account you have." I was urged to change to a different type account to avoid a reoccurence, but in the fine print, I was gonna be charged fees anytime the account balance dropped below $10K. Goodbye credit union........
