WBIII reqs:

As to system specs, not sure the WEB page is up to date, since it was done long ago.
Video cards remain the same, as does PC processor. Only thing I know that has changed is PC memory (maybe MAC). WB III will run with 128 megs, but it really needs 192-256 megs.

It REALLY needs 192-256 megabytes of system RAM???

No, thats not hard-drive space, thats RAM.

Does this strike anyone as slightly excessive?

It strikes me as highly strange, since W9x systems won't perform much better with >128 megs.

Thats actually not true of Win98.  It is true of Win95 though.

When I upgraded to 256Mb there was a decent jump in my system's performance.  I am running Win98SE.

Not that I'm likely to use the memory for WBIII (if it is ever released ).

 Nothing abnormal I think with more requiring more ram. Folks want bigger,faster 'n better right?

 Seen WWII Onlines specs?? Yikes. Same ram and higher CPU minimum/recommendation.

Really? Wow.  Guess I'm just behind the times.

Kinda makes you appreciate HTC lean and mean implementation.  I haven't seen anything in any of the screenshots that impressed me much from either WWIIOL or WBIII compared to AH.

I guess HTC is just able to do more with less.

And from the looks of things in regards to both WW2OL and WB3, this is going to be bumped up.

I expect both to require a 1GHz CPU and 256M of ram with a 32Meg Vid card before they are done.

I'm REALLY waiting to see what IL-2 requires

Well, its not vaporware, but I can tell you that I get only about 25fps right now in a certain online game about WW2 with a 700mhz Athlon, Geforce 256, 192mb PC100 RAM. Of course, you have to take into account the writing to the debug log and the code will surely be optimized a bit. But, don't expect to be running it on your Pentium 233 with 32megs of RAM.

I would rather have to upgrade than be limited by old specs.  Look at a new box game some time and see what they recommend.
128m is bare minimum for a new system and 256 is only a minor step up.  Hell I bought a 256m micron 133 stick today for 73 bucks.

I'm glad you think it improved your performance Karnak.  Unfortunately I hate to tell you the win95, 95b, 95c, 98 build 1998, 98SE, ME are all identical in terms of memory management.  Only NT and 2000 (and upcoming XP) finally make full use of extended RAM.

I could probably find at least 20 articles backing me up here, but I'm tired and don't want to.  

(Hmmm, maybe I should put a little side note here.  Going above 128 MB will actually help a little, but not for AH.  If you have lots of video card RAM that extra memory is very unlikely to be used.  All I can figure is that WBs has HUGE textures and needs more RAM to store them all.)

actually 256mb pc133 of CRUCIAL RAM (VERY GOOD STUFF!!!!!!!!) was going for $95 last week.

ram is VERY CHEAP NOW

and I am ACTUALLY HAPPY THAT THEY ARE FINALLY INCREASING MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS FOR GAMES TO SOMETHING HIGHER

ITS TIME DEVELOPERS STOP RESTRICTING THEIR TALENT BECAUSE SOME PEOPLE REFUSE TO UPGRADE.

I just upgraded every PC in my house to 256 Meg of RAM.  It cost me $130 for 3 PCs (384 meg total).  Its not that expensive.

But then, I don't think ram is going to really be the only issue.  The processor requirements and vid card requirements will be going up too.  That is where the $$$ start rolling in.  Once you start costing over $300-$400 for the upgrade, you are moving out of alot of people's budget.
