Are they a good thing? Or do they do more damage to the community than makes it worth while?
I'm not saying it should stop, but I think that this is possibly the most hostile board available to the community. I see far more personal attacks and flaming on this board than on any other, mostly with regard to politics and related sensitive and not so sensitive issues.
I'm asking two questions, really. One is the question above... good or bad. The second is, do you think that these personal attacks could be curbed a bit? There's no way of stopping them of course, and if someone says something that truly offends me, than I may get angry and post something that I shouldn't. Mistakes are made.
However, attacks on someone's morality/character because you disagree (politics, right/wrong) and not because you have been insulted - and someone saying that they are pro-life, or that they are anti-gun control is
not an insult - are really not condusive to a friendly community.
Even if you have been insulted, attacked, whatever, the best thing to do, is to take a deep breath and come back later when you can respond with your head, and not your... well, you know what I mean I think.
Problems are going to happen, but more can be avoided, don't you think?
So, if we can all agree to disagree before we start to argue about it, wouldn't this board be a nicer place? It's far more interesting, for me at least, to argue when it's the issues that are being argued and not how ugly postera, posterb, posterc, et al might be
I suppose I sound like a peace-loving hippy wuss with this, but it stems from real concern. Twice in my experience, the EAW community over at the old Combatsim.com boards was nearly torn apart by these things.
Thoughts?
You're all a decent bunch in my book.
Just wrong, that's all
