Installing updated Video Drivers
« on: May 23, 2005, 01:15:50 PM »
Question on proces: I am running Nvidia FX5200 and the latest drivers have created screen locks for 10 sec or more after playing for 30 min. I am looking at loading the Omega drivers and see if this resolves problem. Do I first uninstall the Nvidia driver, then use driver cleaner, then launch the Omega driver in that order? I am running windows ME.

Use the 61.77 drivers and your problems will probably be solved.

That would be a bit problematic.  Windows ME is driver 61.76 (98/ME), and Omega doesnt support 98/ME anymore.  Even the links at Driverheaven are dead.  You can still get the "official" Nvidia 61.76 driver at their website, in the archives.  Unless someone can provide a link for another site with the Omega version of this driver, I think Nvidia is your only hope.

Elyh you can no longer download 98/ME Omega drivers from his website.  If it was that easy I would have provided that link myself lol.  I think Omega does have an old 45.xx driver on there for 98, but thats it.

If thats true then he has changed his site.  I looked about a month ago for another poster who was looking for Omegas for his Win98.  All he had was a link out to a couple of mirrors that were dead, and one link for a very old driver.  The only thing there was his message that he was no longer supporting 98 or ME and wasnt going to take up space for them.  If he changed his mind, thats cool.

I went to the archives section at omega's site, the newest Nvidia driver listed for Win98 is 45.23 (which is like from 97 or so).  There are a few ATI drivers newer than that, but nothing Nvidia.  If you try the Nvidia/GF link, and select 98/ME as your OS, all you get is this message:

Quote
IMPORTANT: The Omega Drivers for the Win9x/ME platform will NO LONGER be developed, please don't E-Mail me about this, I will not answer.  Many Thanks for your support!

There is one link in very small letters below that for a mirror for the 45.23 driver, but it is dead.  Has been for some time.  He says there is 98/ME support at DriverHeaven but they have pretty much closed up support for those OS's as well.  So again, unless you know of someone else on the internet hosting the newer versions of his drivers, you either download from Nvidia's website or you are SOL.

I reloaded my driver that came with card when I bought the FX5200 and system is very smooth and running cool. I flew for 1 hour without screen freeze and frame rates are higher, the highest I have ever had. Running ME on 128 meg ram my rates are in the mid 30's and in furball they drop to 20's. My graphic sliders are all they way to the right. I think this is a great improvement and will live with it until I buy a better system. Thanks for your help guys!
