Tyson never impressed me. He's never been that great a boxer. As a straight up brawler, the fact that he's about brain dead already and has tremendous power, makes him great in that sense. But as a real boxer, with the abilty to defend, and to deal with a really good defense, he sucks. In the ring with one of the true greats in their prime, Tyson's only prayer would be a lucky punch.

There have been very few really GOOD heavyweight boxers since Ali. Foreman is an anomoly (sp?), he's from the Ali era and made it into another decade or so with DESIRE. The only heavyweights that impressed me much since Ali were Lewis and Holyfield. Holmes, Tyson, and the Spinks brothers just happened to be decent when there was no great boxer around in his prime.

I figure Ali was already being affected by Parkinson's disease even before he retired, although not so you'd notice. I'm not talking about slurred speech and tremors, but more slowed reaction times and such. Combined with age and the decreasing desire, it was enough to allow guys like Holmes to come to the forefront.

The Greatest was the greatest.

Before the suspension he was 29-0 with 23 KO's ... hard to imagine what could have been ... a projection would make him 45-0 with 36 KO's.

While I admire Rocky Marciano and his record it is still a fact that he fought his cousin 13 times.

Hockey has Wayne Gretzky. Baseball has Jackie Robinson. Boxing has Cassius Clay. Humanity has Muhammad Ali.

Pffffttt on the hulkster ... he couldn't even do better than a draw against a movie character. ;) :D

What's funny is that anyone would believe Rocky Marciano could hold Ali's jockstrap. Marciano had a 68 in. reach, Ali an 84 in. reach. Marciano was a plodder, Ali had wheels. Marciano got knocked down by light heavies, Ali demolished an undefeated Bob Foster simply by out sizing him.

Marciano was fortunate there were no good boxers in his day- he came in after the Joe Louis/ Max Schmelling era and retired before the Patterson-Liston Ali era.

Ali dominated boxing, was Skuzzied from boxing for three and a half years, and came back to win the belt again.

That was the Golden Age of boxing.

Agreed.....Golden Age of Heavyweight boxing occured between the 60s' and early 70's.  A good number of formidable heavyweights around at that time.

Oh....Ali...Liston...Frazier. ..Jimmy Young...Larry Holmes...Foreman.

I know I'm missing a few.  The last 20 years if you are a fan of Heavywieght Boxing you've been bored to death.

Tyson was never a Boxer....and who the hell is buster Douglas LOL.

Cassius, was "better than" Ali.

It ain't Maricano's fault.

But keep grasping.

Sorry for the confusion.  "Cousin" is a boxing insider term for a looser (or over the hill opponent) fought in a home arena.
I should have used the more commonly known term of tomato can.

By contrast Ali fought only 1 man who had a loosing record ... in his 4th or 5th fight IIRC he fought a man who was 0-1.

Hope that cleared that up ... again sorry for the confusion.
