I stopped accepting PayPal after some deadbeat charged back an item and never returned it to me. I was one of the first PayPal users right after it came out and was totally free.

PayPal is now owned by EBay and they make a lot of money off of it and mostly the seller is taking a the risk, in my opinion. It's not worth using.

I only accept check or money order and will not ship until the payment clears my bank.

As for paying for an auction, I would never send payment until I have heard from the seller.

Regarding Paypal...I thought if you did do a charge back to paypal, they would close (suspend) your paypal account, or something like that.
Alot of people don't like the way paypal and ebay operate, just google "paypal account locked".
I've sold on ebay also, and I had to give a valid CC number, as well as a valid email account which you had to respond to email they would send you (I think, it's been years since I set up my account).

Lazs, you are obviously being slighted, and should respond to eBay as soon as possible to clear your good name. Be sure to give them your credit card and banking information when they ask for it, just so they know it's you, and I'm sure everything will turn out all right.

"valid" CC is what gets me. A stolen CC and a fake email address can do a lot of damage to everyone involved on eBay.

yep sob... I did click on the link just to see how realistic it was... It was very good... they even had a "register" section for new users.

gonna keep it and check in a few days to see if it is still up.

This is called a phishing attack that is designed to make you panic and enter your info in the non ebay site without realising that its a scam. I hope you did not fall for it.

I got one of those a few weeks back too. Almost fell for it till I remembered that PayPal (or any major site that has your CC on file, for that matter) never sends out emails asking for your information.

It's a bad idea to even click on it. Most of the phishing attacks have a unique identifier in the URL, so by clicking on it, they know that your email address has someone who might click on an advertisement. Your account is then sold as a 'premium' listing to other spammers.

lazs ... I wouldn't touch that with a 10 foot pole. Can you still log on to your e-bay account ? If you can ... then that is a bone-fide hoax/scam.

I always watch what I buy on there. One thing I always check is the shipping. I seen one of them wireless networking cards for a laptop. It was at $3, but the shipping was $19. I emailed him and asked why something that would only cost $3.85 for a little card be charged $20 shipping. I got some response that he charged $10 to wait in line at the post office plus other fees like taking the time to email me and for generally using his time to sell me the item.

needless to say I didnt bid on it. Some sellers are bad at that, gets them a lot of bad feedback also (power sellers are the worst)

Yea meat, I'm pretty sure some of these sellers use the 'guestimation' system for shipping. Probably not sure how much it weighs or would cost for packaging and shipping so they just use some inflated round number 'just to be safe.'

I would guess that they would know how much something weights if they mailed it enough times. I got me one of them postal scales for my stuff though. Most things I already kow their weight, but weigh the ones that I am not sure on.

Depends on what it is...I think sellers sometimes jack up the shipping price, combined with a low BIN price to get the buyer to look at the listing (since the BIN price is what they'll see in the list of items). I bought a Palm Vx a month or so ago for $20. $5 for the product, and $15 for the shipping, and it definitely didn't cost that much to ship. And the seller wasn't a penny pincher either...they shipped me the wrong cradle (auction said it'd come with a sync cable only), so to make up for it, they sent me a cradle for the Palm Vx, and a prepaid return shipping envelope for the wrong one even though I said I'd pay to ship it back to 'em.
