Death to the 500 mph wingless ditch!
« on: July 20, 2005, 04:10:56 PM »
My kill total is about to go WAY up! TY HiTech! People were getting really, really adept at abusing the ditch model. Nothing more disgusting than to cleave the wings off a plane only to see the 400mph fuselage skip along the ground to a halt and the pilot ditch it denying a kill...

Did that really work? A couple of times I accidently "ditched" upside down in a tree. All was well till I exited to tower, then the person got credit for the kill.

In all my times flying, never have I had someone get away with a ditch from me.

Then again, never have I gotten away with a ditch from someone else.

What do you mean "People were getting really, really adept at abusing the ditch model."???

That's a pretty dumb statement. Just sayin'.

I've had people ditch successfully on me. It's rare but does happen.

I mean, when they took some damage instead of fighting they'd quickly pancake  and exit usually losing tail and/or both wings in the process at 300 mph+. Saw the same person do this 3 times one night.

Only had it once happen to me, Was in a hurri on the deck with a spit and zeke, when their buddy came slashing through the furbal hispano spraying. It knocked my tail off at 100ft and 200mph, I spun around arse backwards and prop up at 45 degrees. Came to almost a complete stop and gently landed. Of course I hit tower as fast as I could.

I had a case with flyign JU-88 on a vulched field where I augered with it, bounced back up from the ground and awarded a kill to the nearest enemy.

Had too little speed, crashed and bounced again and boom another proxy kill for the enemy.

On third bounce I hit flaps and could continue flight untill the moment someone bounced me and sent me to tower.

Something fishy there..

I lost a lot of kills to guys ditching.  With the old version, it was possible to turnfight on the deck at 150-180mph, take off someone's wing at that speed, and then watch them fall 300-500 feet at 150mph... ditching inverted.

Based on last night's experience, that won't happen with any kind of frequency now.

Some people around here would think that's cowardly, you should have have remained in the cockpit and allowed someone to finish you off instead of denying them their kill.  :) :D :p

IIRC this depens on where you ditch. If you get a 'you have been captured', then the other pilot gets a kill credited ( if enemy base/CV is closer than own). If you get a 'ditched successfully' he shouldnt.

It's a good change. I had one last night, chopped up a FW-190's tail, he ran like the dickens for his base. I followed but was falling behind quick. It was a long chase, over a sector. I wanted to see if he would slow to land or would try the high speed ditch on the runway.

He went into the base at 350+MPH and tried the runway slide for life.

It was very gratifying to see the BOOM.

Good work HTC.

I lost a P47N last night landing at 300+ mph with wheels up on the runway.  I was trying to land and get back up as soon as possible in a new plane.  I guess I can't do that anymore.;)
I used to be able to do this fairly easily whenever I was in a hurry (not frequently).
