Sun and Weather effects should be part of the game.
Why have aircraft that are "realisticly" modelled if everything else is not? Why have terrain? Why have towns and buildings and water?
I know, why not just make the MA look like flat green ground, a perfect blue sky and 100% ambient lighting? Yeah that would be cool then we could get in "realistic" dogfights with other planes.
