« on: August 20, 2005, 02:06:55 PM »
Okay I have some new ideas for some planes:

1. The german troop transport-Junkers Ju 52/3 M
2. U.S. patrol bomber PBY "Catalina"
3. British bomer-"Halifax"
4. German torpdo bomber-Heinkel He-115
5. German float plane-Arado Ar 196
6. the glider that was pulled behind the C-47 on D-Day

Let's see..Ju-52..pathetically slow underarmed german trimotor
transport/bomber

PBY..again pathetically slow underarmed Navy patrol flying
boat.

Halifax was a poor man's lancaster.

He-115, another floatplane who's biggest claim to fame was
fishing downed pilots out of the Channel and praying that the
RAF was sound asleep.

Ar-196, which would come in handy if we had any German
surface ships, and at least carried a pair of cannon.  Still duck
soup to virtually every fighter currently in the game.

Horsa glider...big wooden box full of squishy things :aok

This was off the top of my head, btw..I suppose getting a
reference book would probably be overkill.  All these birds have
some geewhiz value as niche items but not very useful.

1. The german troop transport-Junkers Ju 52/3 M

At some point it would be nice to see this, but it is not a huge priority.

2. U.S. patrol bomber PBY "Catalina"[/b]

If a flying boat is to be added it should be something capable, either the H8K2 'Emily' or the Coranado, maybe the Sunderland but it would be a sitting duck compared to the other two.  The PBY was a great aircraft, but it wouldn't fit into AH very well.

3. British bomer-"Halifax"[/b]

Why?  This fills a as close to identical role as the Lancaster as can be imagined.  You'd be hard pressed to find two aircraft that overlapped to a greater extent.  The Wellington would be much better as it would give us a capable, early war British bomber than the German fighters could catch, unlike the Boston.

4. German torpdo bomber-Heinkel He-115[/b]

Why?  It serves no purpose and played a very small part in reality.  The Ju88A-4 is better and covers the same timeframe.  A good torpedo bomber to add would be the B6N2 as it is a very capable aircraft, played a large part and fills a significant gap.  The B7A1 and TBD-1 Devastator would also be ok additions.  The TBD-1 because it fills a gap and the B7A1 because it would see wide use in the MA.

5. German float plane-Arado Ar 196[/b]

Once again, why?  It fills no significant gap and played a very small part.

What role do you see for this in AH?
