Kansas City Players-Saturday Plan
« on: July 26, 2000, 08:23:00 PM »
Hi all,

Met Rude today for lunch and we thought we'd all try to get together on Saturday, July 29 for lunch in beautiful Gardner, KS.

Why Gardner? After lunch I'll take you over to the new CAF hangar at New Century (Old Olathe Naval Air Station/old JoCo Industrial Airport) and show you my brother's BT-13 and the rest of the stuff in there. Then over to the Gardner Muni strip (~4 miles) and I'll show you the PT-19.

If the WX is good and the shot of cortizone into my shoulder on Friday works (am grounded right now), maybe we'll fire up the PT and get some wind through our hair.

Take I-35 South to the Gardner Exit. Go West EDIT<man, these painkillers are doing me in>  RIGHT  into town. Newer Strip Mall on right just after first light with a big grocery store. Meet at Mr. Goodcents on West End..we may move on from there, depending on what sounds good.

Cyas!

An update:

I forgot that the CAF meeting is this Saturday. I'll still be over at Goodcents at noon but if some of you want to come early and see what's going on, that's fine too.

To get to the CAF Hangar, get off I-35 at the same place and still turn right. Take the next exit to the right and go into New Century airport and drive all the way North until you exit the area with the buildings. There will be a white sign with an arrow pointing RIGHT that says CAF Hangar. Follow that road around, park in the old Executive Beechraft lot. The CAF hangar is SE of the old Exec Beech hangar. I'm sure you'll be welcome.

Milo,

Enjoyed meeting with you guys! We'll do it again; to me it proves my hypothesis that 99% of the guys playing this game are MY KIND OF PEOPLE!

Sorry we didn't get the PT up. I think the arm coming around though. It is about good enough today.

As far as the KC CAF unit, this is another bunch of FINE PEOPLE. Oh, we have our "personalities" but this is a good bunch that loves WW2 aviation and knows how to enjoy life.

My suggestion is to join as a "friend of the wing". For $35/year you can hang out with us and enjoy 90% of the bennies of a full CAF Col. At the end of that year, if you want to stick and get fully involved we'll sign you up as a full member. (It's tax deductable, too...a nice touch.) If you don't, no hard feelings.

I'll be glad to sponsor any of you. I always make the back seat available to Col's and FOW going to and from the airshows as well.

It was fun!

Thanks for the tour and some insite into how the WWII planes are put together.  Was amazed that the control cables were so unprotected!!  I wonder how many planes were downed by a lucky shot that cut a cable? Took guts to fly those planes if ya ask me

My brother and nephew send their thanks too.
There's a 727 parked by the C-47's, who the heck owns that.  He heeee I think my brother was lookin for spare parts for the DHL planes

Thanks again, toad!!!
