More Mossies!
« on: September 26, 2005, 12:47:28 PM »
Dang it, I am getting interested in the Mossie again.  It is a frusterating deathtrap in AH2, but I can't help liking the dang things.  We need more Mossies.  We need some combination of the following Mossies:

Mosquito F.Mk II
Mosquito B.Mk IV
Mosquito NF.Mk XIII
Mosquito B.Mk XVI
Mosquito FB.Mk XVIII
Mosquito NF.Mk XIX
Mosquito NF.Mk XXX

My personal choices would be:

Mosquito B.Mk IV
Mosquito B.Mk XVI
Mosquito FB.Mk XVIII
Mosquito NF.Mk XXX

I understand the Mk XVIII is a no go however.  Too nasty for the poor bombers if used as a stand off bomber killer.

The B.Mk IV would work for an early Mossie bomber and the B.Mk XVI would cover the latter Mossie bombers.  The existing Mk VI can fill in for early Mossie fighters and mid war Mossie night fighters as well as covering the FB.Mk VI role.  The NF.Mk XXX covers late war Mossie fighters.

At a minimum I think the B.Mk IV and B.Mk XVI are needed in addition to the FB.Mk VI.

Please add more Mossies.

Heheheh:

I'd settle for the XVI as a perkie-buff, assuming it's some time before *any* mossie sees the virtual light of day in ToD.

In the MA, the IV would be as "quaint" as the Val - same load as the VI and no cannon for extra fun.

One could also consider a Mk.II as a lighter, more nimble version of the VI (though slower...). Same external model, would just need some added skins and tweaked FM.

Still would like to see the XVI and some targets for it, too.

Cheers,

I agree that the XVI would need to be perked otherwise it'd be one of the most common suicide rides as it'd be a 330mph at sea level increasing to 416mph at 26,000ft cookie.

The IV would be more common than the D3A due to greater survivability, doing 380mph above 20,000ft.

I am not sure that the XVIII would be as hard on bombers as Pyro fears.  It is a Merlin 25 powered Mk VI with the 20mm cannons replaced with the massive 57mm Molins gun and carrying an additional 900lbs of armor over the Mk VI.  Those weight increases combined with the low blown Merlin 25s should make any bomber at any sort of reasonable altitude all but immune to it.  It would be fairly nasty for unescorted nape of the earth bombers, but I, for one, am ok with that.

Yep - one would have to remember the 6 lb-er shell in the Molins was solid shot - no Blowing Things Up as such, just punching holes in them.

All that extra armour would be a pain, too. Damn mossie always picks up a Magic Pilot Wound or worse on ground attack, anyway.

Mossie was historically a very durable aircraft.  would love to see that modelled in Aces High.  It also far outclassed the 110 in every respect, this is also not the case in AH :(
I am not ashamed to confess that I am ignorant of what I do not know.

IMO its the B  Mk XVI that is missing............. we have a predominantly 44 plane set and it would fit in..............I am not even sure it needs be perked............

I can do far more damage in a formation of B24's with 4 x 2000LB than I could ever do in a Mossie B MkXVI even if it had a cookie on board.

With 4000lb cookie it should be confined to level bombing.......
