Question-viewing films
« on: October 16, 2005, 01:53:56 PM »
Maybe I should just ask... what's the best way to view a film of say a 1v1? When a film rolls, the default is inside the cockpit  and often it's like I'm crouched down and right. I usually switch to an external view, icons on and gun camera checked.

Seems like a silly thing to ask but is there a better way to watch a film?

You don't get the view from an adjusted head position so internal viewing doesn't give the actual way it was seen by the pilots during the fight.
I usually turn icons on unless editing them for something else.
I also use external often and pan around at times with film speed adjusted slower to understand what's going on. Then the final look see is usually done at regular 1x speed.

I also like to turn on "Trails" and watch from an external view or fixed view and use the side and bottom sliders to position my self around the fight to see how one reacts to the other opponent.  Still though view them from internal as well from each plane to try and visualize what the pilot was thinking at any particular moment.

everyone has their own way of doing things though ;)

I watch each film from the external view, icons on, using recorded views.

I watch the film over and over from each of the aircraft involved in the fight to get an overall look from each position.

Usually i watch films in external, icons and trails on as well as 'use recorded views'.

Lately ive started watching films (that i usually already viewed as above) from internal view, to visualize the moves from inside the cockpit. BTW, you can adjust the head positions in film viewer just like in game (arrow keys, pageup/down) and save them with f10.

If sometimes i need a better overview on the movement of the planes not only relatively to each other, but also 'over ground' (sorry cant explain that any better in english) i swich to fixed view.

Sometimes its good to get your hands on the film someone else recorded fighting you. youll see your mistakes and good moves from *his* end, that can give a good insight as well. (I know you can swich to enemy plane in viewer, but you wont get the recorded views and the movement of the control surfaces and throttle management.
