No it's not some anti-American observation (
), it's a British game by Lionhead Studios, headed by Peter Molyneux (the guy behind Bullfrog and the Populous games).
It is simply breathtaking - 'God' games have always been a bit samey to me, but this seems really original. The graphics are outstanding (although I do have a 1.2 GHz Athlon and a Prophet II Pro 64
). Fully zoomable landscapes with truly amazing lighting effects.
You get a kind of 'avatar' in the form of a creature - mine is a tiger - it starts off fairly small, but eventually, as you teach it more it can grow to the size of a small sky-scraper.
The essential them is one of choices. You gain 'Belief' in you by ihabitants of the islands by certain acts. Perform food or wood miracles and you get more belief until you become the central deity in their lives. But you can also be a complete b'stard and be an evil god - they believe in you becuase you might be dropping rocks on their houses (or children) or throwing them into the sea.
You reward (stroking) or punish (smack around) your creature depending on what he does. For instance he might pick up a cow and eat it if hungry. Reward him for that, since he does need to eat. But he also might eat a person, so give a slap for it.
I've only played it for a few hours, so I've barely scratched the surface. It is a huge game.
I was wondering if anyone has heard of it (EA are the publisher, so it can't be far away from a release)?
