500ft+ AGL Collisions
« on: December 15, 2005, 09:47:02 AM »
Just wondering if anyone else is haveing this problem.  Twice in the last week i was flying well above ground level (1st time was about 500agl second time was over 1000ft agl!!) and collided with a ground object.  I understand lag times and that type of thing but this is kinda ridiculas. Maybe i'm just pissed cause the second time was a 262 and i was rtb   anyway like i said just wondering if anyone else is haveing this type of problem

some of the base objects, like the radar tower, stay as a sloid pressence after they have been destroyed.

fly over the spot where the radar mast used to be and you will collide with nothing.

alsosome trees are taller than you might think.

other than that chalk it up to sod's law, especially in a 262

Trees and towers top out at about 200 feet I believe. I use that as my 'stay above it' altitude. That gives you 300 feet of airspace to remain under radar.

This same thing happened to me with a buff formation at about 5-6k over the ground elevation a few days ago.
Admittedly, I wasn't paying too much attention at the time (auto-climb, beer grab in the next room), but all the planes crashed within 10 seconds of each other, and the messages indicated a 'crash' with no message of 'shot down by ___.'
I chalked it up to a secret mountain or the cost of a beer , but now I wonder a bit.

when i was in the 262 i was level and had been level for a while so if it was lag it put me a different altitude.  the first time it happened to me was in a corsair. i had just straffed a town building and had pulled up and was about 900ft agl and in the middle of my turn to head back in for another run when my prop just stoped and bent. that could have been lag but was at least a 5 to 6 second lag :(   anyway not really mad about it now just curious if was a known issue.

Lag can not affect to collision with ground/trees/buildings.

Happened to me in KoTH last weekend... I was just flying along ~500-1000ft, and KABOOM back to tower. Didn't get shot, didn't fly into a mountain... just back to tower. Was interesting.

I've seen when flying at low level quick flashes of trees in my outside view.  They're very fast but you can definately tell they are trees.  I don't have a reference for the size of these 'new' trees to the huge old trees but they are roughly double the height of the trees currently.

I will have to look through films to see if it caught it or run Fraps directly in game.
