Quality headphones
« on: January 06, 2006, 01:07:25 AM »
Was wondering if anyone had ideas on some higher quality headphones then the $10 ones I normally get.  I use them to hook into my amp because my family doesn't enjoy the louder noises.  Low quality headphones ruin the tone, they make everything sound like a blob especially with distrotion.    I don't want to spend $250 either, just some nice ones that will put out a decent tone, preferably the big ear muff style.

Read the reviews.  They don't edit them.

You can get Grado SR60's from 69$ and SR80's from 95$ and they both are excellent products.

I second the Grados'  very well rounded can...  better for acoustic featuring highs and lots of mids..  bass is so so.. (the mids on grados sound superb ..)

they are hard to find without online ordering them..

for instant gratification I would suggest Sony MDR V600's   99.00 bucks at Circuitcity , best buy, etc..

Excellent bass treble and mids..

Some of the best cans for the buck you can find..  I gone thru about 3 pairs in about 6-7 years..  then again I use the crap out of them..(DJ, Bass Guitar, general listening studio work at home.)  one pair was a wire failure on the cord (my fault i stepped on them.. then cannibilized the parts for the other set i had..)  the others i just blew them up over time..

read the reviews at Circuit city or your favorite electronics store..

I got an altec Lansing pair for $19 at best buys and they are awesome.  my squaddies say the mic is clear and the earphones are in stereo.  I bought a second pair to have as a back up.

I doubt there's any. Buy good headphones and use some DIY-skills to mount mic from some cheap combo to them.

Zalman has a pretty good clip on mic (clips to cord from headphones) and costs all of $8.  Sound quality is as good as from a standard gaming headset boom mic.
