I use the emergency brake also.

I've never been hit but it's been close at times. :D

Let's see... We are worried about the guy tailgating because it might cause an accident.  So we cause an accident to stop him from doing it?  Can't believe some of the idiocy I am reading here.

Otherwise, brakes and gas at the same time.
Or just ease off the gas and force them to pass.

If I'm on the left lane passing other traffic on a reasonable pace, I'm definately not going to give way before there's sufficient space on the right lane to do it without slowing down.

in florida if you hit you brakes and cause the tailgater to hit you, you might both be charged with the accident.

No we as in I don't like people tailgating because it's rude so I in turn act in a rude way.

I've never caused an accident unless you count their undies.  :p

It's hard to prove if there were no brake lights.

BTW doesn't Fla have no fault insurance? It's never anyone's fault so everyone pays?

florida apportions blame according to circumstances, case in point, car A pulls into oncoming traffic, car B brakes to avoid car A, car C hits car B,car A is given 20% of blame.

true story.

When I drive my muscle car I just floor it. Since my rings are shot, I leave a thick layer of oil all over his car/windshield. I almost got shot a couple of times, but the fun is there.

If I drive my regular car I indicate I'm about to slow down, and I leave room for the guy to pass.

When I drive my beatup 1985 F250, I signal a right turn and brake hard enought to scare the guy.

My girlfriend just keep ignoring the guy, and frankly, that's the best way.
Dat jugs bro.

I keep the REECE hitch on my truck with a 2 1/4 inch ball on it. The tow bar sticks out about 16 inches off the back of the truck. I also installed a cutoff switch for my tail lights under the dash. So when I look in the mirror and only see the roof of a car I will give my brakes a light tap to gently remind the stupid idiot to back off. When that fails to work I kill the tail lights and slam on the brakes. I've gotten 2 new bumbers for free and laughed as the tow truck took their cars away because of the huge hole in their radiators. When they complain to the cops that my tail lights don't work and it's my fault, I tap my brakes, lights work and cops write them up a nice ticket.

I ignore them and act like they aint there. I'm worried about traffic infront of me not so much as behind me and sometimes I have to pull my hand brake to keep from running over the J-walking grasshoppers.

Slam on the brakes and hope they hit me! (NOT A GOOD IDEA IF YOU OWN A FORD PINTO LOL and If you DO own a Pinto you prolly shouldnt be playin AH as new car should take priority LOL) I got a good insurance settlement that way once! I would always see this guy on a two lane farm to market road on my way to work and he would inevitably tailgate me everytime he was behind me! I got tired of it one day and slammed on the brakes and he hit me. In Texas if you hit someone from behind its automatically your fault. He got ticketed I got a new truck and some spending cash out of it! :aok
