« on: January 29, 2006, 03:36:39 AM »
My current setup

EOS 5 + 28mm + 50mm + 85mm + 28/105mm USM + 40mz3i

As I'm budget limited (thank to getting married :cry) I've the following options

Choice one :

EOS350D without lense + CF 512 MB

Choice two :

Fujifilm FinePix S9000 / S9500 + CF 1GB

Of the two.... 350D, you already got Canon lenses.

Better check first that your old lenses fit the type of camera. Some digital cameras accept certain types and others other types of objectives (inside Canon selection).

I have a 300D so the 350D should be a nice camera. The only thing that I didn't like so much was the lack of option to shoot through lcd display like I could do in my old G3. The feature was handy when you wanted to take a picture over a crowd or low down somewhere.

I just bought a Minolta Maxxum 5D because I already had a collection of lenses. During shipment it was announced Konica-Minolta is getting out of the camera business.

They sold it to Sony, and they say they are going to keep the design of the lense system.

I love the camera, it's great... I just hope Sony doesn't change its mind.

Get the cannon. It will take the EOS lenses no problem. I have not really heard anything good about the finepix.

Those lenses (assuming Canon EF 28/1.8, EF 50/1.8, EF 85/1.8 and EF 28-105/4.0-5.6 USM) should be compatible with the current EOS digital bodies. With those lenses, there will be a little bit of missing wide end since the EOS-350D has a crop factor of 1.6, meaning that the 28 mm will look like 45 mm on a full frame camera.

The flash may be a bit more problematic, at least if you wish to use it in E-TTL mode. Most of the Metz lineup require new firmware for the newer Canon cameras. The update may be free, but here in Finland the distributor charges 40 euros for the update job.

Thanks guys :)

I'm now sure I'll grab a SLR

 I'm thinking either a brand new 350D at 750€ or a used 10D at 500€ ...

The 10D is a better choice than the 350D, but I'd look and see if you could find a 20D that will fit in your budget. A new one over here is about $1100 (US).

Nikon at least has better flash technology.. now if I just could have a piece of it to go with my D50 :D

I've been wondering what to do next month with my money..
a) get a tripod
b) get the SB-600 flash
c) get 50mm F1.8 lens (cheap, but everyone praises it)
d) get 28-105mm lens or similar to make up for the lack of 50-70mm range that I lack.

Yesterday made me all tinglish for new stuff...  I saw too many photographers around me at the celebration of the re-elected finnish president. Friggin people had two camera bodies with them - one with a tele lens and the other with a wide lens. Of course the body itself costing more than my whole setup.

...but the tactical skills learned in AH and other games still made me come on top with the locationing in the crowd for photos of the president. Can't buy skillz with money :D

;)

Good practice..   and I was freelancing for family friends.
Learned a great deal more about the use of D50... though.. such learning situations are driving me out of money with all the pro setups around. :furious

The same ideas are razzling through my head, got a tripod from my father dough not as rigid better something as nothing.
Im looking for a second hand 75-300 tele or maybe just the 70-300 wich is cheap
maybe a 200 will do good enough for airshows etc to many choices .
Than there is that SB 600 superflash and remote control etc etc.

:)

And have a look at this site and the many photos taken with a D50
And all nikon cameras

Without question ,it will be a small tele with a digital and you can't beat the Cost,Aperture,Quality combo.

@MiniD I checked the prices for a 20D ... I cannot :(
