"So-and-so wants to join you" dialog box
« on: February 03, 2006, 05:22:33 AM »
Location of "So-and-so wants to join you" dialog box appearance.

(If there already is a way to permanently change this I would be glad to know.)

Please move the location where this dialog box appears to the corner of the screen. Several times I have had the slightly perplexing experience of, for example, closing to less than 400 on a diving N1KI in a P-51B, only to lose any possibility of hitting because the dialog box suddenly appears over my gunsight. Why not make the box smaller, semi-transparent, and have it only appear in the upper left or lower right corner.

Best Regards,

Cement

Type .showjoin 0

The windows will be gone and requests will show up in the message bar.

Thanks NHawk.

Would you know if this is this a permanent solution, or do I have to do this every time I log in to AH?

If it is not permanent, then I think my suggestion would be useful.

If the words "Join requests will now show in the text buffer" (IIRC) don't show up in the text window within the first 10 seconds after you log on then you need to use the dot command. Haven't had to do it in a long time so it must save to settings.

No, AFAIK this is an arena specific setting. Youll only need to change it once for ewvery arena. Itll keep the setting untill you change it back.

The setting is saved and permanent, regardless of map. Set once and forget.

It is saved in the flight.cfg file in the Settings folder.

I typed the ".showjoin 0" command a long time ago.

Each time I log on, it says, "messages will now show in your text buffer"
or something like that.

BUT,

I still see the message window pop up each time someone chooses to join my plane.

Any suggestions?

I ain't worried about it really though.

You have to do it for each arena, correct?

Can this setting be toggled on and off in the event I wanted the pop-up to show?  Sometimes it's faster for me that way if I'm in a bomber and need a gunner fast.  So the dot command is ".showjoin 0" for join requests to show in the text buffer.  What is the dot command to undo this?

Thanks.

Still, a good idea -- even for those who want the clickable box to come up , theres no reason why it needs to be 100% dead center! COuldnt it be say at top right like the GV's "load supplies" button?

we all know the .showjoin commands but there is no sense in the dialogue box being so large, in the center of the screen or not semi-transparent.  this would be such a SIMPLE fix (I am a programmer by trade and have been for 12 years) I fail to understand the 'wisdom' of not doing so.

That was my thinking too. I've assisted a programmer and in the applications I've worked in it might take a maximum of one minute to make the changes. The alternative text buffer join, though not a blinding visual distraction, nevertheless is a distraction since you have to type in the buffer, maybe something like, "LteL33Tt," and as such you may wind up a typing kill while trying to figure out the correct spelling. If someone wants to join me, I don't care, hop in. I just think the next release could easily include this fix with a small box in the corner.

All the best.
