Can someone please explain to me why...

CURLING IS AN OLYMPIC SPORT?????

And how in the hell does anyone consider anyone who participates in this....activity an ATHLETE??

Interesting to watch. (for about 5 minutes) but not what I would call gripping competition.

Its about the same as calling people who plays Horseshoes, Pool  or your local Janitor who sweeps and mops floors"Athletes"

I would say that they (curlers), are just as athletic as shooters. Should we call shooters athletes? What about archery? Luge?

Of course there's always this Hotties with brooms: U.S. women curlers have sex appeal

archery yes. Luge yes.
Both things that require  both skill and at least a certain degree of physical fitness.

 Shooters. no

Any redneck can be a shooter

I'm a new "fan" of this sport. Its actually really great when you get into it. Tactics are just as important as curling a great stone. You don't have to be as fit as in many other sports, but that also goes for alot of other sports.

Any redneck can shoot, but not all rednecks can shoot well. It takes a certain degree of dexterity and skill to shoot at Olympic levels.

Tell that to my sister-in-law who just quite competive curling. She worked out every day that she could (weights and running) to be in condition, as did the rest of her team. Right now she is in Torino with the woman's team.

Only the ignorant would say curlers, at the competive level, are not athletes.

As an activity I can see how it would be fun to do.
And it is certainly more fun to watch then say. Bowling or Golf.

I just dont see what place it has as an olympic event

Work out??
To be in condition for what?
To slide a 42 pound granite stone across the ice?

Exactly what was the weight traingin and running for?

Tell her to come over to my house and she can get all the conditioning she needs mopping my floors.

Althete indeed.
Nonesence

How could you question Luge?  Luge is all about the start...get a good start and you have a chance.  That is why most lugers are former sprinters, very much althletes.

Bermuda's one and only participant in these winter olympics is a guy named Patrick Singleton.  His event is the Skeleton.  Sort of like luge except instead of lying on your back you go head-first on your stomach.

He competes tomorrow in round one.

Go PAT!!!!!!:aok
