Deprivation of Aces High
« on: March 04, 2006, 10:36:09 PM »
I have not flown for about 9 months. No, I didn't have a kid ( I knew most are thinking of that  ). But, I did move in with my lady, we are still happy, and I thought I'd show everyone what I have done to cope with not being able to fly.
Now, I haven't stopped because she won't let me or anything like that; I came across a bad motherboard, & the replacement was also bad (some luck, eh?). So, I took it as a sign to put AH on hold (I PRAY not forever), and took up raising leopard geckos.
Yes, I know, it's not as glamorous as, say, collecting guns (I still have mine :p ), but it's a hell of an interesting species.
Anyways, I thought I'd share some pictures of what made me have a new type of pet,  a new & different animal to take care of, and boy do they have their own personalities.

Here is our very first one, named Cosmo

Here is one of our boys, Ulysses loungin around

Our baby, being curious

One of our newest girls, Messina takin a bath

And a great pic I caught of two of the leo's hunting

Now that you have a girl you should not be playing with your lizard so much.  :D

Lizards bite Beet1e, but there is only one lizard in the US that bites where the bite is felt to any degree, and its bite is very toxic..  That would be the Gila Monster.  They are generally larger critters, about 12" long or so and live in the southwest desert areas.

Geckos are neat and about the size of a regular lizard.  Very cool.:)  I've seen them around here in the house before.  Completely harmless, except to flys, spiders and roaches.  They are good to have roaming the house in a wild state.

What about Iguanas, we have immigrated iguanas, well then you got aligators and crocs too, their lizards, just Golly-geen big ones.

I used to have a couple of Leopard Gecko's when i was younger, loved them, fantastic pets.

They really do have different personalities, one i had was really cute, would love being held and would always climb up your arm and sit on the back of your neck for the warmth. I never got bitten by this one.

The other one was a right little *****, she would constantly be exploring, would never sit still and would generally just do whatever she could to be awkward.  This one bit me a couple of times, didnt hurt at all though, more just a warning thing to let you know she is feeling grouchy.  This one was fantastic looking, colours really stood out and were a bright contrast, very streamlined looking compared to the cute one which was shorter and stubby.
I am not ashamed to confess that I am ignorant of what I do not know.

Iguanas aren't native to the US I don't think.  I don't know.  Alligators are, but I have always thought of them as more like dinosaurs than lizards.

But yes, if you count them I wouldn't want to be bitten by one.  I've heard stories about alligators being in Southern deer woods.  I've never seen one in the wild out in the woods, but think I may have heard them before.   These were areas well in the woods away from the delta but near creeks.  Not riverswamp areas where you'd expect them to be.

Plenty of alliagtors in the Alabama river just south of Selma. They are in the slews and creeks where they join the river but I have never seen them in the swampy areas around there in all my time of hunting that region of the state.

I used to tournament bass fish all over the south east US.  TONS O GATORS THERE!  My most memorable time was when I caught a 4 foot gator on a white spinner bait....it snagged on its back....came right up to the boat....yes I did get the bait back!

Geckos rule... in Okinawa we had them all over our house...several inside that made it in....we loved them.

Very cool pictures seraphim.:D

Wow, with all of those gecko's the insurance company must be paying you for insurance on your cars......... :p
