Woman Faces Fine for Supporting Troops
« on: March 11, 2006, 11:56:15 PM »
I never understood why anyone would be willig to move to a home that had an "association" That could tell them what they could or could not have on their property.

The State and township is bad enough without some half arsed committee trying to control it too.

WESTCHASE, Fla., (March 10) - When Stacey Kelley's husband, Army Pvt. David Kelley who is serving in Iraq, sent her a cardboard sign expressing support for U.S. troops overseas, she put it up in the yard of her suburban Tampa, Fla., home.

Kelley, 24, never imagined that it would raise controversy, or that she would be threatened with a $100-a-day fine if she refused to take it down.

Just one more in a long list of reasons why I'll never purchase a home where I'm required to join some damn association.

That said, the stupid cow should have read the rules when she signed on.

What sandman said.

She's not being fined for supporting troops.

She's being fined because she's non compliant with the rules of the neighborhood collectivization she volunteered to be in.

Remember all the drama after 9/11 when people were putting up huge american flags on their houses and their homeowners associations were telling them to take the bigass flags down. And the bigass flag flyers were like, "whaaaa?? :huh " And then the homeowners association was like, "yeah that's right your handsomehunk knowingly became part of a homeowners association".

These associations are un-american and it's alarming to see such entities gaining power over private property that previously only the government possessed.  They're a plague that needs to be stamped out, the sooner the better.

The residents SHOULD complain, even if they made the mistake of buying into it.  Wrong is still Wrong, even if (or perhaps, especially if) it only takes advantage of the foolish or unsuspecting.  It traditionally has been--and always should be--up to the local government to enforce community standards, not some group of citizens which amounts to little better than a modern-day posse.

As for me?  They'll pry my pink flamingos out of my cold, dead hands.

HOA's aren't the problem...... HOA's are a symptom.

1) Vehicles on bricks
2) Belligerent "Freedom of Speech" yokels
3) 9ft fence security minded dorks
4) "Jungle" lawns
5)  Fridge on the porch

I'm sure the list is endless.  Personally, I'm not going to buy a home and live under someone elses rules.  However... I'm not going to trash the neighborhood either (honestly, I hope NOT to have neighbors within a mile).

Stupid people = Stupid measures

Simple really.  The lady in question and the HOA came to an agreement... $1 a day (as opposed to $100).

Whats the problem?

P.S.  I've been in "military housing" for years.  You want to talk about a bunch of anal-rententive-in-your-business-nazi's?  Sheesh....

during the 1st gulf war a co-worker lived in one of those places, he put up a american flag, he got a notice to take the flag down, he told the HOA they could try to take it down,

that was the last he heard from them.

I joined an HOA in my neighborhood.  It's not that bad really and kinda what tumor said it prevents the neighborhood from becoming unsightly.

I didn't have much of a choice though, If you want a decent home in a decent neighborhood it usually requires some kind of HOA (where i'm moving to anyway)

On more than one ocassion I have told my HOA to ram there fingers up there collective butt's.

And also informed them that if they wanna play this game I will gladly tie there butts up in court and bancrupt them.

Since then I have heard nothing.
PS it was not my idea to "live" in a place where they have HOA's but the wife
wanted to live here so I went along.
But even she is getting sick of the bullchit and is thinking of doing what I wanted to do all along and that is to move to the country and buy some land.

The main thing that chaps my arse is that we paid out over $10.000.00 in property taxes this year:O

Just so the schools can have big huges stadiums to play football in.
LOL most of the kids I see pulling outta the school parking lot are driving new 40K cars and even see a few H2's.

So if mommy and daddy can afford those cares surely they can afford private schools.

Whoa, hold on there sheriff... why aren't you weighing in with your studied opinion that she is completely in the wrong here because she "signed a contract"?

That is what it boils down to, right?  She signed a contract saying that these folks could tell her what she could and could not do with her house and property.

So as far as Mav and the piglets are concerned thats it.  Show's over.

Or is that only the attiude when it is a corporation?
