Microsoft Sidewinder 2 Pro FFB
« on: April 11, 2006, 02:45:16 PM »
Anyone have any advice on setting up the buttons and hat switch on the MS Sidewinder 2 Force Feedback Pro? I know how to set up physically, but the views are a little weird, as I easily lose sight of nmes until they show up on my 6.

Also if anyone uses the base buttons and/or damping settings, what works best for you? Thanks!

But, I'm having alot of trouble getting bombers off the ground.
Going down the runway, I can seem to only get up to a top speed of 90, which I gather is not enough to take-off.

I don't have take-off problems with fighters.

I also use a mouse wheel for my RPM speed.

My joystick and mouse setup, are as follows:

Joystick throttle for THROTTLE:
Slide up a bit: THROTTLE 1
Slide up a bit more: THROTTLE 2
Slide up near full: THROTTLE 3
Slide up to Full: THROTTLE 4

Mouse Wheel for RPM:
Scroll up a bit: RPM 1
Scroll up a bit more: RPM 2
Scroll up near full: RPM 3
Scroll up to Full: RPM 4

there's your problem right there.  you should use your throttle for all engines.  IF you want to adjust a single engine, you can select it.
SHIFT 1-4 to select engines 1-4.  CTRL E to select them all.  I've never had a problem with rolling buffs.  Drop a notch or two of flaps, and you'll be fine.

As to the views, I use a M.S. stick, and never lose sight.  Do you have the UP key mapped to your j/s?

Also Use SNAP mode, (f7).  you do "pan" to the view, but much faster than "pan mode".  It is what I use.

I have my 8 way mapped to (starting at 12) forward up, forward right, right, rear right, rear, rear left, left, fore left. One button on the base is an UP modifier so if I hit it and the hat it looks up fore right, etc.  Is there a down button?

I use snap because the pan mode was dragging my framerate down.

rgr there IS a down, but you'll rarely use it.
