I think one guy sucks so I know nothing about popular music.....right.  I'll admit I've heard 5 or 6 of his "Hits" and never have been impressed.  Please tell me what is so great about him...I've heard he's such a great guitar player: what does he do that makes him a "great guitar player".  As for singing...for what it is its fine, but I wonder if he could hit any note you ask him to within his range.

The American idol was my reference and was "tongue in cheek" for the most part.  My point is that Bob Dylan sounds like a drunk seal when he sings on most of his stuff.  He's a great song-writer, no doubt, but his voice would make him a target for Simon.

This in no way is meant to give Simon any real creadence though...I think he is an arrogant ass....just be interested to see him put down Bob's voice and tell him "You will never make it in the music business".

:rofl

Would have to agree with you Curval...but then if you start to compare artistic talent that's when the difference shows up. Bob Dylan is probably the best lyricist of all.
His ability to put into words his perspectives and politics is unmatched. In the same way way Neil Young doesn't have a great singing voice, but look at the songs and performances he is responsible for.

Hendrix (who I also saw twice) was another who can't really be considered a great singer, but again, look at the song writing, guitar playing and concerts he produced.
When you get into this depth of creativity, it's not about how good one sings!

Dylan is a poet, not a singer. Springsteen falls into the same catagory, not as good a poet as Dylan, but a little better singer.

Simon would probably kick Janis Joplin out too.  Just sayin.
