With all these small incursions on your rights, these subtle and not so subtle violations that go against the intentions of your Founding Fathers, all in the anme of terrorist-fighting?

Was listening to Leonard Cohen's latest cd, and then put on some old ones, one being "First We Take Manhattan" - while I can see why some would find it offensive, I also realize that such people would be unable to see Cohen's message and obvious irony. Yet, that song is banned from radio stations following the attack.

There are numerous other examples. Just wondering if you're not a bit concerned about stuff like this? Not sure how banning Cohen songs from the radio helps fight terrorism...

Not the government.

Part of who we are is letting companies make decisions like that. Their customers will decide if it was the right decision.

No, I'm not worried. There's the Yin and the Yang. The pendulum will swing, it always does. They goofed in War2 by locking up the Japanese. Now we've paid them some reparations. Government screwed up, moved the pendulum the wrong way. Took too long but back it came again. Not the best example, but an example.

The Supremes are the ones who will move it, not the Congress or popular opinion.

I like the way this government is set up and I have faith in the Supreme Court to keep it basically on track.

Shortly after the attack on the World Trade Center, a major player in radio productioins generated a list of songs that it thought would be a good idea to avoid and distributed the list to its affiliates. To my knowledge, most of the affiliates used that list as a play guide for the next weeks' worth of programming.

There was no censorship. Nothing has been banned. A group of suits thought they knew what was best for the country and the country told them where to shove it.

extreme times call for extremem measures.. there are seldom extreme times in the US. so 99% of the time everything is just dandy, so we (most of us) dont really mind being pissed with in times of trouble such as this.. in generall we stand behind the gov.. hell right Now bush has the highest approval rating since.. well ever as far as I know..

That "major player" is ClearChannel. When you're working on monopolizing the entire U.S. radio business, it's best to step lightly. They put that list out to protect their asses.

One of their affiliates is DC101 (http://www.dc101.com). As far as I could tell, DC101 completely disregarded that list from the start. Of course, some of the DJ's at DC101 are quite open and vocal about their contempt for Clear Channel.

ClearChannel sucks. I switched radio stations because of their censorship of "distasteful" words. I'd be ok with it if it wasn't so inconsistent. Some songs are fine, but others aren't, and the word is the exact same.

RadioPeople I think is who owns the station I listen to. They've got a better morning show anyways, and a better afternoon guy as well.

I bet the new station you listen to is owned by clear channel. Them bassturds ate up all the little radio stations!!!! Took off some of my favorite programming in houston!!!!

I hate them!!!! At least 93.7 klbj doesn't do their "list"

So we still get to hear the long version of "bone crusher" on friday afternoons

someday they will come out with a band that will replace the world's best rock band ever- the velvet underground - until then i'm not budging

although i have to thank joe strummer getting back into music by forming the mescaleros - at least there's one good band out there.
