walking football (soccer)

Sunday I was out at a local park and observed a very precise but odd soccer match.  some older guys were playing on a pitch roughly 25x50m there were four to each side a very small goal box and no goaly.  I watched with keen interest because no one ran, in certain plays they walked briskly but never even got up to a trot.  I watched for about 15 minutes at which time the match broke up and they headed to the shade to drink beer.  I asked about the nature of the match and was told that if you ran it was like an offsides penalty.  the passes were very very controlled and the game was interesting to watch.  I may try out with them next weekend.  anyone else ever seen this before?

Nope, not into soccer, or any sports much beyond boxing & U.F.C. a little auto racing is ok.

This soccer match sounds like it would be much more fun to finish than to play, shade & beer just go together.:D

Can't say I've ever heard of that. It sounds similar though to whats gaining popularity over here. The Nike Soccer tour is popularing 3man format, very small field (usually indoor) and tiny goals. It's more suited to flashy tricks and 1 on 1 "jukes"... same mentality coaches spend years trying to stamp out :lol It's gotten a good reception from players here... especially the hispanics, a few too many think they're the next Maradonna... it has to be a machismo thing. Just mug them while they're dancing and carry on with the game.

It's pretty much the anti-thesis of how I was taught to play... but it is alot of fun :t
