I wish the bottom photo would show up, it was obviosly NOT a fake, and that one seemed to be at least 8 feet long, and had quite a bit of girth.  I personally have caught several in the 30 pound range that were about 4ft long. My biggest was at the dam spillway behind lake texana, it was 5'6 and 53 pounds (according to handheld scale) it was the biggest i have ever causght but by far not the biggest I have seen.

300cm in length and about 170kg is the max size for this fish according to most sources I've read

Thats about right, I imagine there a few over that size in ideal conditions, but that porbably the max most people will see.

however 10 feet long and 300 pounds is kinda skinny, seeing as how the world record was only 7ft long and weighed 300 pounds, so if a fish reached 10ft it could attain a much higher max weight.

this one as 170 pounds and almost 8 feet long, photo doesent appear to be fake.

Yeah I found it odd that the supposed world record is only 7 1/2 feet long but most texts say that the max size for this fish is 9feet . In my experience, max size stats for fish are an average of large specimens, so I wouldn't be suprised if someone has knowledge of a 10ft specimen being hauled in . Many species of fish continue to grow untill death .

On a side note I too grew up in the NW around hydroelectric dams and I too heard the stories as a kid of divers many years ago encountering huge sturgeon . Nowadays about the biggest baddest thing you will ever encounter in those rivers is a rare northern pike .

Oh yes those were the days. My "Grandma" Harmon (everyone called here grama Harmon) used to always have sweets and good food around. My dad was bad for it. He used to have an old refrigerator setting out in the car port full of pop and candy bars for me when I came over to visit. Talk about a sugar high. Ummm frozen Snickers bars and Milky Ways in the summer. When we went fishing we were stocked with chicken, sandwiches, candy bars and pop. Ummm health food. LOL.
