CTD bug
« on: June 06, 2006, 11:52:52 PM »
Every time I try to fly an aircraft, it crashes to desktop.  I haven't had a CTD with any new version since beta back in 1999-2000. :(

Here is the error message:

As a result, I cannot fly. Any suggestions?

Download a full version of 2.08.2 and install it over your existing install of AH. I had the same problem and this worked for me.

Are you using custom sounds?  Does it happen on all planes and vehicles that you've tried?

Hi Pyro:

I think it's only the new/redone aircraft. It seems that my 3 favies are impacted. I'm using custom sounds (Mitsu's) but not for some new ones.

The following aircraft cause a CTD:

Bf109-K4
Bf109G-14
P-47N
Spitfire Mk VIII
Spitfire Mk XVI

All else are ok.  Weird.

Mayhem: already ahead of you. It's what I did.

Try these two things one at a time.  First delete your cache folder and and then try it.  If that doesn't change anything, rename your sounds folder and then try it again.

Pyro: With patch 2 I still get this problem. I go into the hangar, I can select either the aircraft listed, select a camo, default or custom, ammo loadout, bombs, rockets etc.

When I click on a Runway location on the clipboard, I get a CTD.

So far, I've tried deleting the custom sounds and the cache - both do nothing to stop the CTD.

I'm going to uninstall and reinstall. See if that'll fix my CTD problem.  Any idea why it's with these planes only?

I'm using
Windowx XP (fully patched, DX9.0c)
Symantec Antivirus
1Gb mem
MSI K7V mobo
Athlon 2500+ CPU
on-board nic used
Audigy 2 ZS soundcard
ATI 9700 Pro AGP video card
Saitek X-45 gear

Just tried uninstalling and blowing away all directories. Still, no joy - CTD with only those planes above... really really weird.

In the mean time, I'm just not going to fly those A/C.  In the coming weeks, I'll try reinstalling my soundcard drivers, and my video card driver to the latest Catalyst version.

Word in another thread? Is cat 4.12 works best for AH?  Possible that has changed but it is what I'm using.  Haven't flow any of those planes though?

Will try later today and if I CTD will post here.

That almost sounds like an art problem. Have you tried reloading your nose art?

Seems to me that was an issue a while back with the updated aircraft.

worth a try.

cheers,

RTR: Already ahead of you on that one. Blew away the squad directory but still getting CTD.

It's just weird that these new aircraft are causing CTD.  Not sure if anyone else is having the same problem as me.

What are your video settings?  When you came up with a clean installation, did you try to run it with default settings?

Pyro: yeah, that's what I tried when I re-installed it - using all default settings.

Question Pyro: is there a 'debug' switch I can run for you in the executable?  I could then send you the log file!

The problem in defusing all issues like CTD, is that it could be something in my machine, not necessarily in the game.  I'm suspecting it's my machine because no one else is having this issue.  It's just crazy to think that a specific aircraft could cause a CTD from a memory violation.  Let's mark this one under weird and wacky, let me do some 'cleaning house' on my computer, and then see if it still persists.

We're seeing some CTD issues on certain planes when using custom sounds.  I know this seems redundant but can you rename your sounds folder and try it again?  Also, is this happening in offline mode?

I know it sound stupid but are you sure you are using the new version ?
Check if you don't have 2 installations of AH.
