TIR MOD perfected
« on: June 10, 2006, 04:04:38 PM »
I have perfected an easy way to modify the TIR vector clip so that looking down dows not cause loss of tracking as easily as the stock clip.  The mod is non destructive, totally reversable and takes about 5 minutes.  I will have my clip at the con so if your intersted be sure and take a look.

Materials:

3 pieces of plastic tubing 1¼" long.  Ice machine water tubing works well, 3/16th to 1/4 inch diameter.

3 small zip ties,  the 4½ inch size work well

TIR reflective material, you'll need 3 pieces about 1¼" long and ½" tall.   You can buy it in 1' x 1" strips from the website.

All you do is take the tubing, put a zip tie thru it, and loosely connect the zip tie ends.  Put this over one of the 3 curved reflective areas with the tubing covering the reflective material area and the zip tie around the back.  Pull the zip tie tight....no tighter, you want to curve the tubing around the curve of the clips reflective area.  Now snip off the excess zip tie and your ready to apply the new reflective layer.

Take one of the reflective material pieces, and make 5-7 slits 80% of the way thru the SHORT way (like a comb, where the bottom is solid, and the teeth come most of the way down).  These slits will allow you to place the reflective material on the curves of the tubing.   START IN THE MIDDLE AT THE BOTTOM.  Work the bottom of the reflective tape along the lower visable edge of the tubing.  Now work the MIDDLE section up and work your way outward.  Because of the curvature, you will see a slight overlap at the top, and thats why we cut the slits, to prevent ugly (functionality imparing) creases and folds.

Thats it.   Just repeat of the other reflective points.
