New computer?
« on: June 18, 2006, 05:03:28 PM »
I have a limited budget to spend on a new computer. Almost anything is a upgrade from this one. I think my cellphone has more abilities then this.

Anyway....

-$300-$400 dollar budget

-No, I dont want to build it myself.

-Yes, I know building it myself is cheaper and better.

-Trying to move toward a Mac. Im fed up with winblows.

Suggestions?

Thankyou kindly.

Something second hand!

BTW, why didn't you post this in Hardware/Software? I got some very helpful responses in their, when I was building my current PC for AH2.

Are you looking for a mac @ 3-400$ or are you going to get a mac after that one?

Anyways.. Pay attention to the Dell website. They often have discounts and stuff on desktops so you may find a model there

Even for the cheapest one there he's looking at adding an additional $200 minimum  for a graphics card and memory if he is looking to play AH

I dont have time to play AH anymore. If I am going to spend money on gaming experience I'll buy a Xbox 360 and a new tv.

This computer will just be used for online, digital camera, and other small things.

Yup, thats true. With his budget i guessed that he knew that.

I would personally buy components and build one myslef, but there is ofcourse a small risk that you break something.

Heres a little decision making and purchasing philosophy.
1.is it something you will use often
2.necessity (relative)
3.dependability
4.durability
ect.
Well what I'm trying to say is don't be "cheap" when your buying something your going to use almost every day. Don't set a budget go for BBFTB "best bang for the buck". When I'm getting something I'm going to get a lot of use out of I don't think of a budget. I think in terms of bbftb. For example your home, car ,TV, wife, tools and so on. Don't worry so much about the money it comes and it goes. You never know you could get hit by a bus tomorrow, then it doesn't matter. Get what you want and need a year from now you could be disappointed and need to spend again, on the other hand get what you want and be satisfied. Plus a year from now you'll never miss the extra money you spent anyway. Remember I'm not saying go over board but stick to bbftb. You only live once, you don't want to be "cheap" about it do you? You cant take it with you anyway. Look around on the boards you should be able to find something that will make you happy for about 800 dollars. If you try to go cheap your just going to spend it in the long run anyway. Good luck.
