delay/lag
« on: June 21, 2006, 09:20:05 PM »
lately with these patch 3, most everyone i have spoken to online is having trouble where they die after the enemy plane has passed by (and mabye flown to a different sector)
some people may say this is not a large problem becuase all it seems like is that you die later, but really you dont get pinged before you die, it all hits at once and boom. it makes it where you have no signs of being shot, but you die nonetheless.

i see that collisions are becoming more common, not because people ram more, but because if i fly in the same sector as a plane YOU HAVE COLLIDED, or ***** HAS COLLIDED WITH YOU. either way they die, and i fly off. (because of the collision model [IE. if collision occurs and player handle is ToadFlak do task3 {task3:kill ToadFlak no damage to other aircraft}])

and this is my expression on the collision model (not meant to flame, just put in 2 cents). the model is FUBAR. and is summed up as whoever is on slower connection gets less-no damage. becuase if the person who has a better connection "sees" the collision (seeing, having nothing to do with output or input of the game) the other person, may not be in the same position. thus thier lag has made them avoid the collision. and has caused the collision on the other end. becuase the plane the better connection saw, was not an updated position it was a .5 sec ago position. thus the collision model = 56k I CAN RAM ALL I WANT and T3 IF I FLY BY SOME ONE WITH IN A 5 K RANGE I GO BOOM

Not trying to argue here.......but just want to understand your viewpoint....
What you are saying is that anyone with a slow internet connection that seeing the nme plane at 700 then warp to 200 then warp to 100 past him deserves to die cause he thought he was flying 700 yards away when actually the other guy saw him at 200? :huh

Its as good as it gets now.....until the entire world becomes net friendly and starts getting high speed connection facilities.

The assumption that the lower connect speed wins the collision is false.  I only have a 128K ISDN connect.  I know a lot of folks have cable or DSL.  I have "won" a collision exactly two times since I've been playing this game (several years).

If anyhting, I would say t is the other way around, the higher speed connect wins.

i know im wrong, it was just my interpretation of it.

i prolly should have figured that the collision thing would have masked the real point of my post.. so everyone IGNORE THE COLLISION stuff in my post.

how bout we address the problem the delay or "lag kills"

Well, all I can say is that I have never seen what you are talking about. I have flown by many players that obviously have poor net connections.

The one thing I have seen and it has nothing to do with the current patch is when the plane flies faster than it's bullets. You don't get hit until he's past you. That is cause by lag/packet loss.

Now this may be a phenomena of "controlled lag". We've all see the player who warps drastically when your on his 6 but is rock steady when he's on yours.

ok. explain this. a 262 rams my level flight (in guns) lancaster, my tail comes off, he flies off. he came up from my 6 o'clock position very low, and came straight up underneath my lanc, hitting the tail, never firing a shot. just using his long hard 262 of ramming doom to kill me

how is this fair. he had control of his plane which carrened into mine. why do i die.

and this is not a personnal attack to prove HT wrong, i just want to know that this is supposed to happen like this and in fact the collision model is coded something like this (if collision occurs and player id is equal to ToadFlak do task3[task3: kill ToadFlak becuase his criticizm of HT has offended the lord our HTC])

i have no footage of it, i dont record this stuff, becuase i dont have the HD room.

If the 262 driver had his tracers off you might have not noticed the muzzle flashes being intent on killing a 262. Should one of those hit the gun, aka pilot you be dead.

Second, asking HTC to fix delay/lag problems with the internet is like asking them to clean the air over L.A....ain't going to happen.

The collision model HTC has come up with is the best anyone can do at this point in time. Till the internet becomes completely clear with no delay in pinging from anywhere in the world, this is how it is.

Stop complaining about something that can't be fixed, learn to live with it and try to have fun playing the game.

so all of a sudden since patch 3 came out, LA's air has become polluted?

this didnt happen until patch 3 came out, and unless the internet is gradually slowing down (last time i checked the speed of light is the same as 2 months ago) so that rules that out.

and second last time i check you cant pilot kill shooting straight up through the tail gun, and there was no muzzle flashes, because i wasnt intent on killing the 262, i had no shot on him, and last time i checked once your tail is gone, it is "debree" and does not give the collision message. so therefore he hit me while my tail was still on.

The last time I checked, my delays and ping times have gotten worst too, but I didn't jump to any conclusions and asumed it was the game. I did more checking and pinging and have found that in general the internet has slowed down recently and it just so happens it started around the same time the patch came out., but the pings and delays are still there even when I'm not playing the game. So I've come to the conclusion that the internet has gotten more laggy, most likely due to all the little kiddies that are out of school now and are allowed to stay up late and post crap on Myspace, and download crap with there torrents there by using up band width.

oh and the last time I checked, when there was only one person posting about a problem like this, it turned out it was his computer more than anything else. If it was a real problem everyone and his brother would be posting in here saying "ya me too!"

go back to posting on myspace.

Delays/lag  may/will happen.  "FireHwk delays" are different.

You could have worded the post better.  Do a search like "the man" said.  It will tie up any loose ends you have on the matter.

It's quite simple, your Computer detected him colliding(ramming) you but on his computer he just missed you. Bombers probably have the worst situation when it comes to collision detection because you can't maneuver out of the way as fast as a fighter. You have to understand that what you see is not what he sees. On your computer he hit you on his he missed you.

It'd be nice if the internet was at the speed of light. Tha'd be possible if Cat5 copper wiring conducted light. Too bad, ain't it?

I don't have a problem "controlling my rage" as you say, I just don't "suffer fools lightly" If people would take the time to do a search on these boards they would most likely find a ton of infomation on the subject they have a question on.

Demanding HTC do something about the lag on the internet is just plain foolish.

Do your home work BEFORE spouting off and you won't look the fool.
