Guns safety and selection
« on: July 01, 2006, 03:34:38 PM »
Ok, I've kinda been stewwing about this one for a while.....

Could we get a safety switch added to the guns package please?  Most planes that we would be flying either had an electrical or mechanical means of safing the guns so that mishaps didn't occur when the plane in front of someone was not an enemy.  This would be more accurate and better for missions and squad opps.  I always feel bad when I bump the button and blow my squad away, and it happens to the best of us (slayr, HA).  If this function were implemented, it could easily be enabled/disabled with an options checkbox for those who don't want it.  Also, a small indicator light could be added (either red on for safe or vice versa) to indicate hot guns.

Also, I think it would be really awesome if a button could be programed just to drop ordnance.  Insetead of switching secondary weapon and relying on the same button, external stores could be selected and dropped seperately.  This seems a little more realistic, while still keeping the fun of having the cannons and MGs separated (which wouldn't always happen in reality).  Selection (rocket rails vs specific hardpoint pylons) could be indicated easily in text box as the salvo is now.

While we're at it, (and really I think this should be the first concern of implementation from this thread) can we please get a button to increase or decrease bomb salvo?  Settings could still display in the text bar, but it sorta kills the sense of emersion when you have to type .salvo 2 or something to execute an onboard aircraft command.  Also it sux when you're entering a dive and realize you havn't set it right.  Bomb ripple could also be added for buffs, but I'm not sure if that is actually historically accurate, and the current 'hold down the button' method might still be best.

I think all of these things could be implemented into the software relatively easily (or should be able to, won't pretend I've seen the source code).  They could all also be easily disabled in option such as the mouse look or stall limiter.  Then, those of us who like it now could stay as is, and those of us who want to not kill our allies or to play around with the other stuff could do that too.

In the words of Mike Myers in his mother in law character---"discuss amongst yourselves".

i think a saftey switch would be pretty cool, and i know wut u mean about the .salvo a mappable increase/decrease button would be good

I'm all for these things

As for not switching to drop ordanance, well i don't care either way if this gets implemented as i personally don't have a problem with it.

and for the "bomb ripple" could you explain to me wut that is exactly?

I'd like a seperate map-able button specifically for ords. Dunno HOW many times I've cut loose my drop tank and rolled in on a target just to blow a perfect gunnery pass when only two of my guns fire. :p
Ron White says you can't fix stupid. I beg to differ. Stupid will usually sort itself out, it's just a matter of making sure you're not close enough to become collateral damage.

by bomb ripple I mean the number of salvos dropped automatically.  I may be misusing this term and it may more accurately reffer to salvo itself.  Basically Im talking about control over salvo as we call it now, IE how many bombs are dropped with one press of the button, as well as how many salvos are dropped with one press.  There is timing delay between salvos, and the button can be held down, but having one press to drop say 3 salvos of 2 bombs each over a town or something would be kinda cool.  I don't know if this is historically accurate to this period though, and would be more accurate in a game like falcon 4.0 (which has this functionality).

Drop the bomb ripple idea, its probably not even worth coding, but I still think the rest is good.  Please give us a safety!

It sounds like a fine idea.  I just fly with my fingers off the trigger, tend to work fairly well.  I've blown plenty of passes too when I have my DT selected instead of guns, or drop a bomb or rocket when I didn't mean to.  I don't know if a mappable function would be better or not though.

All sounds like fair ideas I personally have my salvo set at 1 and my delay at 0.05 that way i can drop as many or as few bombs as quickly or slowely as the target needs.
