Caveat... I installed the June 2006 version in October, when I downloaded AH and had the spinning clipboard issue.  The game ran smooth and stablely.

I noticed that there is a newer version of the AMD dual core optimizer (November 2006) and that the earlier version is no longer shown, and so a few days ago I downloaded that.

After installing it, the very first time I entered AH I CTD'ed.  The game was warpier than I've ever experienced, and I had screen freezes of as much as a half second duration.  Very much like what people who haven't installed it will sometimes report.

I restored to the system restore point with the June version, then reinstalled the June version to be sure it was actually installed properly, and the game again ran as it should.

If you find that your system performance suffers noticably after installing the November version of the AMD Dual Core optimer, you might consider trying to locate and install the June version.  I noticed in the thread that those who installed the patch after November seemed much less satisfied than those who installed it earlier in the year.

My system is a watercooled A8N-SLI Deluxe based system running an AMD 4600 processor and 4 GB of dual Channel RAM with an NVidia GEForce 7800GTX.

For the record. My AMD optimizer, AHII, mobo bios, chipset drivers, Nvidia VGA drivers, monitor drivers & the Hotfix are all current new release as of 12-29-2006. To clarify; I have installed it & my system runs AH with zero issues. No spinning clipboard, no CTD's. :aok

If you install a dual core chip into a windows install that was set up on a single core chip it will act that way. You can do a fresh windows install & load all the up to date drivers & hot-fixes & that will solve all the issues, not just cover them up.:aok

Those problems are exactly what I experienced going from a single core chip to a dual core & after reading up at AMD's forums they all recommended a fresh install of Windows & it worked like a charm. I haven't had one single hiccup since I did my dual core upgrade & fresh install in any program. Before I did it though AH locked up on me & was laggy.

AMD Athlon 4600 DC with AMD patches and MS hotfix installed on previous single core installation and I'm seeing spinning clipboard occasionally and experiencing frequent discos (previously none at all).

Also the game locks if I go to desktop with alt+tab.

I guess I need to try to reinstall the XP...

I wish I had seen this thread sooner...

Anyway, I have been using RunFirst as a workaround to AH freezing up.

The specs of my machine are:

AMD Athlon64 x2 Dual Core Processor 3800
2GB RAM
Radeon X1800XT 512MB

Running Japanese version of Windows XP Home Edition with SP2 applied.

I have applied the:
1. AMD Dual-Core Optimizer
2. AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor Driver for Windows XP and Windows Server 2003 Version (x86 and x64 exe) 1.3.2
3. WindowsXP-KB896256-v4-x86-JPN.exe  (a rough translation of this by altavista... "When this renewal program is installed, power source management function of the processor is supported, the circumstance that is corrected it is times when performance decreases with the Windows based system which loads the plural processors.)

Before applying all this, Aces High would freeze up while in the game.  After applying all this, it runs pretty well... except... the old Alt-tab problem where you can't get back to the game seems to be back.

I'm running XP Pro (32 bit with all latest updates) and Vista Home Premium (64) on the same machine, parallel disks, hardware configuration as follows:

AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+
Corsair 2048 XMS2-6400
Asus GeForce 8800GTS 640MB
Dual Samsung 320GB SATA II (not RAID but parallel OS, selectable on boot)

I've found AH to run very poorly on Vista, framerates often drop below 20. On XP however the system consistently run at 59-60 fps (capped at 60) unless in a fight close to ground.

Is this patch for XP only or would Vista benefit from it too? Building my own PCs but I'm no hardware tech really, advanced user I'd say. Been trying to make AH run smooth on Vista but not found a fix yet.

Had the flickering clipboard problem (and maybe some other stuff).  I played it safe and installed just one patch at a time, and the "Dual core optimizer" was enough for everything to get back to normal, great fps and all.

Specs are
Asus M2A-VM
AMD 64 X2 3600
1GB of ram
XFX Nvidia 7900GT 256MB, PCI express
Windows XP Pro v.2002, SP2
All latest drivers (except for Motherboard stuff which I just installed the OEM CD drivers)
DirectX 9c
Hello ant
running very fast
I squish you

I just returned to the game after a long hiatus.
I have the AMD Opteron 165, moderately overclocked.  The other advice in the Aces High support FAQ did not fix my spinning clipboard completely.  (MS patch, regedit Throttle Key,  updated AMD CPU driver, check for switch in boot.ini) These fixes resolved the issue on the first run, but after relogging,  the clipboard spun.

However, the  AMD Optimizer did fix the problem completely, I played 3 hours with no lag, stutters, or any problem whatsoever.

Frame rates are insane at 1280x1024, i think my CPU upgrade blows away the single-core Athlon 64 I had installed in the same system.

I underclocked the GPU (AGP 6800XT) speed from 300 to 280 mHz to fix lockups happening in game.  Lowest framerates i see are in the high 70s.  My gunnery % is up about 10% from my old scores. Life is good, and its great to be back in AH!
