« on: July 22, 2006, 05:48:34 PM »
Does anyone have any thoughts about who will be the first to use nuclear weapons this century? The countries that have'm are:

Will it be a country OR will it be an organiziation? Delivery by land, sea or air?

Where or what is the target?

Im guessing either russia or usa. Not by intent but one of those accidents that cant happen because "its so safe". There are no systems so safe that accidents cant happen.

Just a matter of time

I'll take Israel for $100. Alex.

Oops, it's not on the list. And all the previous Soviet devices are lumped together without consideration for religious and political differences by the current independent states?

The only thing predictable is that the time and energy of this thread will be lost forever. ;)

I'll take a peaceful Islamic group with access to an old Soviet bloc nuke that they smuggle into the US for $200 Alex.

Soviet block nukes are all in Russian Federation now, guarded above any imagination.

I'll be really unhappy if it will be Russia to use it first, but our military doctrine supposes using nuclear weapons first against an aggressor who threatens Russia or it's allies. "Allies" here means (as I think) united countries like Belorussia, as well as Ukraine and Kazakhstan.

Didnt we (The U.S.) accidently leave some weapons grade plutonium on a ship out in the Medd. awhile back so that Israel could accidently find it?

Russian Officials Deny Claims Of Missing Nuclear Weapons

Quote
THE CONTINUING debate over Russia's command and control of its nuclear arsenal intensified on September 7 when retired General Alexander Lebed, former secretary of the Russian Security Council, told the CBS news program "60 Minutes" that he believes more than 100 "suitcase sized" nuclear weapons are unaccounted for. Lebed's charge elicited an immediate response from several senior Russian government officials, including Prime Minister Viktor Chernomyrdin, who denied the existence of these weapons
