Has anyone else been doing it?
I just got Locks,Stocks Two Smoking Barrels, and Pulp Fiction off the net.Took me less than an hour with cable.
Great quality too, actually better than VHS.
Wonder if it`s gonna bring down the movie buiseness.I`m for sure not gonna pay $8.50 for a flick that might very well suck,if I can just get it for free...

So, then you'll buy the movie if after you download it you find out it doesn't suck?

Divx movies are not even close to the original DVD, not in image quality nor audio.

Added to the fact, that using computer to watch movies kinda sucks (who would want to see movies from the DVD-rom?)

I don't think the movie industry needs to worry about this thing.

Nope, they don't.

However, I thought SOB was quite impressive, yet political and gay in retrospect.

A lot of dvd players will play vcds mrripley, but I agree it's nowhere near the quality of dvds, which themselves aren't exactly expensive.

Copyright infringement by any other name is still copyright infringement.  I guess its no big deal as long as it doesn't impact you.

Now its time for everyone to get together and tell everyone else how justified they are in this particular criminal act because of severe abuse or mistreatment on behalf of the entertainment industry.

Please tell me another way to see a movie with original English soundtrack.

Last thing I downloaded was "Fight Club". I am 100% sure I'll buy it on a tape, at least to show it to my Father and to hear some dialogue that I didn't understand correctly.

Some movies, like "Tora! Tora! Tora!", really suck in Russian translation. All pilots are called Rogers  :)

I'll go for it  ;)

I fear the truly criminal act is charging so much cash for genuine DVDs and VCDs and cinema tickets that spending six hours to download a movie seems like a bargain.
A copy DVD in the PRC costs 7-10 RMB That's about $1 US, yet they make so much profit to make the risk of jail (which is even less fun in the PRC) seem like good odds to the Pirates.
The film companies mark up the prices so high they can afford to make stuff like Pearl Harbour with a straight face! (Oh I'm sorry we were talking about criminal acts, not criminal acting... )

One positive benefit of all the rampant copyright infringement out here is cheaper real VCDs and DVDs (they used to charge HK$120-140 for ordinary VCDs and HK$210 for new releases - now they retail for about hk$30-40 normal and $80-100 for new releases). Consequently, most people buy real VCDs [Shock! Horror! If you sell things at a reasonable price people don't mind paying more to buy the real thing and You can still make a profit!!].
God bless those pirates!
 :D

With apologies to all the movie stars/film producers who can't afford the third swimming pool and the second kilo of coke because of this rampant evil...

Dead, the situation you described is exactly the same here in Russia.

The same thing with music CDs, software, etc. The main difference is that local authorities care only about taxes, not copyrights. So, there are many so-called "licensed" disks and tapes that are in fact "pirated", but with all taxes paid.

Many local producers release their works in Russia wt the prices that are sometimes lower then "pirates". Su-27 Flanker 2 jewel box is maybe 10 roubles ($.30) cheaper then "pirated" English version. I hope to buy IL-2 for 70-80 roubles (less then $3) when it will be released here. Or maybe a boxed version for about $10.
