I agree Kieran.  The media, the people, and govt. needs to take the time to find out what really went on, who really did it and then take care of the problem in the nessassary method.

Sancho, I understand the outrage, I really do. I am an American and I want retribution, too. But I am also old enough to have experienced mob mentality.

Showing those building collapsing over and over will indelibly burn into our psyche. Maybe that isn't so bad, except now people ask "what are we doing about it?"

And what do the terrorists want out of such an attack? Attention. Free publicity. Retaliation. Removing the media, or at least restricting it somewhat, while not popular, might be a bit more prudent at the moment. It might remove one incentive for terrorists to perform such an act.

That is my point Kieran. thank you for putting it better.

The media right now is reporting ANYTHING they can correct or not.
They don't need to run constant coverage.  Give us ACCURATE reports every hour.

Am I pissed at what happened? diddly YES!
And when ALL the fact are found out it should be delt with swiftly and with much retribution.

but the media needs to back the diddly off with the false stories.. the getting people in the way of emergency workers trying to do their jobs,,(I know if someone came up to me at that point in time they wouldn't be standing long, anyone that gets in my way when I am trying to save a life gets the same treatment).  The media needs to report what happens but report the truth and don't blow it up so much that the terriorist get exactly what they want.. The attention.

turn off the TV and radio if media mentality bothers you that much.  plain and simple.  I agree with the mentality of the media, however, it's better than not knowing at all.

the media stinks on most things as a whole - but:

it's their job to report the news. it's their job to report it first. they are only trying to do their job. you are angry at the terrorists and venting on the media - understandable.

I'm surprised the media is allowed to get as close to the action as they are. I would be for more of a military state of things until the smoke clears...

Eagler I vent on the media everytime they get in the way, and report anything if they think it will get ratings true or not.
I have almost run over a cameraman when he stood infront of my fire truck as I pulled on scene and blew my siren at him.  He just turned around and looked at me like what the diddly is my problem.  He thought different when the cop escorted him out.  As a police officer I have seen media personnel make things worse on a scene trying to get the scoop.  In my primary job I have had to tell media to get the diddly outta my way while I try to save someone life.  I think the drive for ratings is crazy, but the said thing is it is the bloodlust of the everyday person that drives it.
There are things that happen that we don't need to know just everything about as much as we would like to know.  If it was up to the media I am sure they would tell us exactly where AirForce 1 is so that someone could attack it and make even bigger news.

Do I watch? I check in from time to time to see if anything new is known.  And to laugh at times at the extremes the media will go and who they will interview just to get a leg up on the other networks.  The media can be good and is there for a reason.  The just don't know when to back off.

I agree sir they don't know when to back off..
But for the average idiot out there this crap has to be droned into their head or esle when we do retaliate, we will be the bad guy - though I'm sure they will be some (in the very same media) who paint the US & Bush as evil when we do hit back.
I'd rather see the news drone on then go back to "regular" programming of Judge Judy and the Jerry Springer show...
sickening, the entire freakin thing......

The media has gotten some good news out today.
I watched a recap where the showed the timeline of events.  That was great.  I think that is the best reporting I have seen all morning.  It was only fact, no speculation just facts.

Any retribution given out for this should be done with a cool calm collected head.  Not something in rage.  If the media has anything to do with it we would declare war on any known terrorist group today.  They are able to, with they way they present the new, incite any reaction they want.  And you are right Eagler they will put down our nation when we do finally figure out who did this and retaliate in a nessassary form.  And they will rally the people into being pissed off about it.

Sometimes I think Springer is better. It is kinda like professional wrestling.  You know it is fake therefore you know what to expect.  With professional sports you never really know if it was rigged or real,, same with the media most times.
